Re: "level-headed and balanced assessment of the situation"

No problem. This is a very delicate situation where groups have dug in trenches long before this specific issue came up. Emotions can run high, and with all the mounting ridiculousness on Twitter and FB, it's a relief to check the Talk page and find someone like you there. Please, keep it up. clicketyclick 19:07, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The above

I have left the above on my talk page not as indicative of my level-headedness, of which I possess almost none, but because in the over five years I have been editing, no-one has ever suggested before that I might be the calm voice of reason. I look forward to it happening again in 2020 or so.

A cynic would observe that, on this occasion, some of the other editors involved may have been associated with the "ethics in internet misogyny" crowd, and that even I look good next to them. Particularly if that cynic was me getting back to my usual unreasonable self. :-) Pinkbeast (talk) 16:53, 29 September 2015

Let's hear what you think the transparent motivation of that edit was, then. Assume good faith, Mr. Hasty Reverter. I added factual material from a book published by the subject, and credited him as an expert in self-promotion, since he has literally "written a book" on the topic. Should I have left out the book quotes? Or do you claim that he is NOT an expert at self-promotion, despite the obvious book-length source saying otherwise? You did a typical "lazy editor" revert, not citing any sources, just throwing away other peoples' work, and I don't think that was justified. So please justify your action here. Gnuish (talk) 19:42, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Be serious. You just happened to pick on "self promotion" as the ideal description of a book about advertising, as if that's the only thing people advertise, and those quotes weren't in any way intended to be considered in the light of his absurd claim to have invented email?
And no, he's not an expert on something just because he happens to think he is. Ayyadurai is not a reliable source on how brilliant Ayyadurai is.
Take it to the article's talk page if you like, but I can't see you getting any traction there, particularly given your absurd comment about him "inventing marriage". I'm a lot less likely to AGF in the case of an editor who's already produced a ridiculous attack on the subject of a BLP. Pinkbeast (talk) 21:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

thanks

Thanks for the heads up on the Scott articles and sorry for the hassle. I have semi-protected two Scott articles for a month - if I missed something, please let me know, and thanks again. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:30, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shackleton might be worth watchlisting for now, they've had a go at it in the past. No hassle, it seems like you're more in their firing line than I am. Pinkbeast (talk) 18:36, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - the Shackleton article is currently already protected, but it is already on my watch list and I will try to keep an eye on it and the Scott articles. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:54, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks yet again - I semiprotected Terra Nova too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:04, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see I am now allegedly one of your sock puppets. :-) Pinkbeast (talk) 17:44, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to the club - it's users like this that keep me from revealing my secret identity ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:37, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up. I semi-protected both for 3 months. I will try to check in more frequently, and am flattered to be compared to Shackleton (though I will keep away from South Georgia) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:25, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cromwell

Thanks for the edits there. MOS:ALLCAPS is the style guide here. --John (talk) 23:57, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bah. I detest inaccurate quotation myself but I suppose it must stand. Pinkbeast (talk) 07:18, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Water filter

Thanks for catching that. I don't usually like opening ELs so junk sometimes get past me. I wouldn't last long in an Rfa. SlightSmile 12:50, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrus the Great

The maximum extent of the empire under his successors has nothing to do with Cyrus. Mentioning Paeonia and the Indus Valley in the lead of his article violates WP:UNDUE. 216.8.145.227 (talk) 15:04, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It has a great deal to do with Cyrus; his successors were in a position to do what they did because of him. Pinkbeast (talk) 18:36, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted the addition of Almeria picture

Why you reverted the picture of the Almariya ship? It's a monument placed in Almería city and was a local floating museum in 2005 :(

Olea (talk) 10:49, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In both cases it seemed to be being shoehorned in with little actual relevance to the section of the article it was attached to. Pinkbeast (talk) 19:20, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Small tiny house

Hi, can you explain to me what you meant by the revision in the Smallest House In Britain? my contribution was to rearrange the layout and add some extra information as the original writer only wrote a backbone of it.

i am thinking of deleting and re-writing it, let me know your opinion on itIamjoyandlove (talk) 09:27, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what I can say which is not in the edit summary. It was very badly punctuated in places and I corrected that. In particular "After some persuasion by the editor of the North Wales Weekly News, Roger Dawson the owner and editor toured the UK" was so badly punctuated as to make it impossible to be certain what was actually meant. Pinkbeast (talk) 09:37, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
i will do a bit more research on it and update the article soon, originally the article was just a crap and i am still looking for ways to write on it, i am seeing some reports by Cadw and will shortly update information on the article with a more proper grammar. at extreme, i will delete the page and again rework another one but i think i will just do an edit for now. i will inform you about the updates shortly by tomorrow afternoon and it will be amazing if you could do some proofreading on it and inform of any issue you have on the talk page tomorrow

LSBU updates

Hi, can you please advise how best to update the facts that are outdated on the LSBU wikipedia if you won't allow me to do so? All I have added is facts about the university's affiliation with a group, additional information on a former chancellor, correcting dates and rankings etc.
