TripActions is a travel management company for businesses and business travelers. It is described as an end-to-end solution that combines booking technology, an inventory of travel options, 24/7 customer support, and an employee incentive program designed to save companies money.[1] Booking and managing travel can be done on the web or via a smartphone.[2]

The website claims to save companies between 25-30% on their travel spend with an employee incentive program designed.[3]

History

The Palo Alto, California based travel company, TripActions Inc., was founded in 2015 by Ariel Cohen and Ilan Twig (also the founders of SteamOnce, acquired by Jive Software).[4]

In January 2016, TripActions received 14.6 Million series A round led by Oren Zeev Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company officially launched out of stealth mode and announced their funding in January 2017.[5]

After their launch into the business travel industry, the company moved office spaces in June 2017 from Menlo Park, California to Palo Alto to accommodate employee growth.

How it works

The TripActions smartphone application works on iPhone and Android-based devices. All functionality, including administrative travel management may also be done on the companies web application. Across devices users have the ability to book travel, modify reservations, check travel plans, chat with travel agents, receive real time travel notifications, and expense trips—contacting support for help.[6]

TripActions partners with multiple suppliers in the market to provide users with a wide array of travel selection. Their travel inventory mixes consumer, corporate, and direct options.[7]

The company uses behavioral economics in an attempt to align business and employee objectives by incentivizing travelers to spend more responsibly.[8] Users are shown incentives on each search result with the opportunity to earn 30% equity in every $1 saved for their company. The user's employer keeps the other 70%, attributing to the company's overall savings. Rewards are redeemable for Amazon.com gift cards, future personal travel and business travel upgrades.[7]

The platform uses big data and artificial intelligence to customize inventory and employee incentives for each travel search. Results are prioritized using the company's travel policies, real-time market prices and individual traveler preferences including loyalty program memberships.[9]

The system's admin dashboard tracks company spend, potential savings, and employee travel habits. In accordance with duty of care, the admin dashboard features a live map that shows where employees are traveling in real time. Finance and travel teams can contact travelers directly within the application in emergency situations.[10]

Users can book personal travel on the application as well.

Their website names clients such as SurveyMonkey, Jive Communications, Castlight Health, Malwarebytes, Robinhood, Favorite Healthcare and ThoughtSpot.[3]

Partnerships

The company partners with Sabre Corporation and is a member of the Priceline Group Affiliate Network to combine flights, accommodations, and rental cars from direct, corporate, and consumer sites into one inventory. Users have access ride-sharing applications Uber and Lyft in their mobile travel itineraries while traveling.[11] Additional partners include Coupa and Expensify for expense management within the platform.
