Evergreen College is a Canadian private career college with campus locations in Downtown Toronto, Brampton, Markham, Mississauga, Scarborough and Calgary, Alberta. The college provides training for students wanting to become professionals in the areas of business, health care, social work, and technology.[1] Evergreen College combines in-class learning with field placements in their accelerated programs.[2] The college accepts both Canadian and International students.[3]

History

Evergreen College began as a vocational college in 2002 in Toronto, Ontario. It has since expanded to include multiple campuses in the Greater Toronto Area, specifically in Brampton, Downtown Toronto, Markham, Mississauga, and Scarborough. In 2014, Evergreen College opened a campus in Calgary, Alberta.

Accreditation

Evergreen College is registered as a private career college under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. Evergreen College is also a member of the National Association of Career Collegs (NACC)[4] and Career Colleges Ontario (CCO). Certain programs offered at Evergreen College are affiliated with other institutes and curricula (see programs).

Evergreen College's Downtown Toronto campus is located at 67 Yonge Street, Suite 402.[6] It is located very close to the King subway station in the Financial District of Toronto.

Evergreen College's Calgary campus is located at 1-3516-26 Street Northeast.[10] It is located near the Calgary Transit Whitehorn LRT Station. The campus facilities contain multiple classrooms and computer labs.

Community Impact

Since its acceptance of international students, Evergreen College has had a large impact on immigrants settling in Canada. Many international students have chosen the college to attend in order to study Canadian programs. Evergreen College has become involved with the Centre for Newcomers in Calgary[11] adding to its impact on immigrant communities. Evergreen College Calgary also provides its campus as a meeting space for various events and groups such as the Amiga Users of Calgary.[12]

Programs

Business Administration in International Trading

Evergreen College's Business Administration in International Trading Diploma Program teaches students about the international trading market. In this course, students learn material concerning financial, legal, and marketing procedures in business. The course is 71 weeks long in Ontario and 65 weeks in Alberta. The program includes a 200 hour practicum.

College English Preparation

This is a free program offered by Evergreen College to prepare their students for future study of another program at the college. Students completing this course learn the basics of English with a focus on professional communication.

Community Service Worker

This diploma program lasts 55 weeks in Ontario or 43 weeks in Alberta. It teaches students about psychology, sociology, and counseling. Students complete 200 hours of field practicum in this program. The course is targeted towards students interested in social work and counseling.

Computer System and Network Specialist

Evergreen College offers a diploma program for students pursuing careers in Information Technology (IT). The program teaches students about different network types, web server management, and software programs. Graduating students receive a Comp Tia A+ Certificate, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert/Associate (MCSE/MCSA) Certificate, and Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing & Switching (CCNA) Certificate. The course duration is 33 weeks (Ontario) or 42 weeks (Alberta) and it includes a 200 hour practicum.

Computerized Accounting & Payroll Administration

Students in the Computerized Accounting & Payroll Administration Diploma Program learn the concepts of accounting with business software applications. The curse takes 43 weeks in Ontario and 40 weeks in Alberta to complete, including 200 hours of field practicum. Graduates receive a Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certificate at the end.

Developmental Service Worker

This diploma program takes 56 weeks to complete. Students learn how to work with people who have developmental disabilities. Students learn about adaptive skills, intervention strategies, and implementing person-directed life plans.

Early Childcare Assistant

Evergreen College offers a diploma program in Early Childcare Assistance where students are taught about child, prenatal, and infant development as well as curriculum planning. Students graduate with First Aid and CPR certification. The course takes 38 weeks to complete, and includes a field placement.

Education Assistant

Evergreen College's Education Assistant Diploma Program is a 33 week program teaching students about early childhood development. The course covers the topics of educational material preparation, pupil assessment, and teaching children with special needs. Students complete a 200 hour practicum as part of the course.

Health Care Aide

This certificate program is a 22 week course where students learn about common illnesses, procedures to assist clients with everyday living, and therapeutic activity management. The program includes 200 hours of field placement.

Hospitality Management

Students in Evergreen College's Hospitality Management Diploma Program learn how to manage hotel and restaurant operations including financial and marketing procedures. Graduates receive an American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) Certificate. The course duration is 88 week in Ontario or 82 weeks in Alberta and includes equal parts classroom instruction and practicum (about 820 hours).

Evergreen College offers a 47 week (Ontario) or 44 week (Alberta) diploma program for students pursuing careers in legal assistance. The program teaches students about various types of law, maintenance of legal records, and case research. Students in this program graduate with 200 hours of practicum experience.

Oil & Gas Administration

This diploma program lasts 43 weeks and teaches students administrative skills, communication, and how to use industry specific software. Students also learn the basics of oil and gas industry and technology. A 100 hour practicum is included in the course.

Personal Support Worker

Students in Evergreen College's Personal Support Worker Certificate Program learn how to assist clients with everyday tasks. graduates receive a Public Health Food Handler Certificate, and Alzheimer's Society Training Certificate, a Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training Certificate, and both First Aid and CPR Certification. The course takes 31 weeks to complete.

Pharmacy Assistant

Evergreen College's Pharmacy Assistant Diploma Program teaches students basic pharmacology, pharmacy management procedures, and pharmaceutical software practices. The course duration is 46 weeks in Ontario or 43 weeks in Alberta and includes a 200 hour practicum.

Process Piping Drafting

Students in Evergreen College's Process Piping Drafting Diploma Program learn how to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Students also learn about preparing engineering drawings, engineering calculations and the basics of piping use in industries such as oil and gas. The course takes 42 weeks to complete including a 160 hour field placement.

Unit Clerk & Medical Office Administration

Evergreen College offers a 32 week Medical Office Administrator Diploma Program in Ontario, or a 34 week Unit Clerk & Medical Office Administration Diploma Program in Alberta. These courses teach students how to conduct medical histories, prepare patients for examination, and manage front office operations.[13] Students complete a 200 hour field practicum as part of the course.
