The Artist Formerly Known As Prince is an alias that was used by the American musician Prince Rogers Nelson from 1995 to 2000. The reason why Nelson went under this alias is because Nelson thought Warner Bros. Records (his label at the time) was treating Nelson like a "slave". Nelson released a few albums under this new alias, most notably The Gold Experience in 1995. Nelson stopped using his alias in 2000 and started releasing new albums on his NPG Records label.
