I Fall in Love Too Easily is the fifth studio album by American actress, singer and songwriter Katharine McPhee. It was released on November 17th, 2017 via BMG. The record was entirely produced by the legendary, Don Was, and features covers of timeless, romantic, American standards. It was made available for pre-order on October 5th, 2017.[1]
Background
In an interview with WSVN 7News in Miami on September 2016, Katharine announced that she was heading back into the recording studio the following month to begin working on her new studio album. It was also revealed she was going back-to-basics, that it was going to cover the standards for her new effort, and that it was to be supervised by famed producer, and jazz musician, Don Was. When asked about the project, McPhee shared: “They are songs I am inspired by. I've been inspired by them for a long time, these old standards I've been singing since I was a little kid.”[2]
Recording and inspiration
In December 2015, Katharine took part in a CBS special to celebrate Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday - Sinatra 100: An All-Star Grammy Concert. McPhee along with John Legend performed the opening medley of Sinatra's “You Make Me Feel So Young,” “My Kind Of Town,” and “You And Me (We Wanted It All)”.[3] There, she met a key member of the program’s production team: iconic Grammy Award-winning producer, Don Was. The pair ended up joining forces for a few concerts at intimate bars in California[4] to gather inspiration before heading into the studio together. The Sinatra connection doesn’t stop there, Katharine recorded this new album in the Capitol Records Building[5] in a studio that houses equipment that was used by Frank himself when he was recording his music.[6]
Title
On October 5, 2017 in an Instagram and Facebook live[7], Katharine revealed that her album would be titled I Fall in Love Too Easily, and explained that it had been suggested by producer Don Was, saying: "What do you think about - for the title of your record - I Fall in Love Too Easily?" To which she responded: "You must have really gotten to know me over these last, you know, 9 months that we've been working together."[8]
She later admitted that I Fall in Love Too Easily was indeed a fitting title because "it's the truth."[9]
Singles
The first single, "Night and Day" was made available for free via soundcloud, and premiered on Entertainment Weekly's website[10]; it was later added to other streaming sites, and made available for purchase on iTunes. The track was also adjunted as an instant download with the pre-order of the album on iTunes, and amazon.[11]
