Consider semi-protecting

 – Let's come to one consensus about the title claim, which can be discussed over there. Elisfkc (talk) 23:08, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Back-and-forth revert edits and vandalism by random users on mobile concerning the 2017 nat'l title. Consider semi-protecting until controversy dies down

it needs to locked to prevent the national title from being added by users who have no clue what they are doing. 107.77.229.136 (talk) 21:18, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If we start listing national championships that individual papers or tv shows start awarding then that will open up a rabbit hole for any undefeated or 1 loss team to claim a title. 107.77.229.136 (talk) 22:01, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Several teams have made dubious claims to national championships, and Wikipedia recognizes many of them. See e.g. 1927 Texas A&M Aggies football team, 1904 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. This article[1] claims the UCF claimed championship is no less legitimate than these.38.142.141.218 (talk) 22:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The sport's governing body has not acknowledged UCF as national champions, and the NCAA has never used the Colley Matrix, which appears to be the primary source of the claim, to reward national championships. (Colley ranked LSU #1 in 2011, Notre Dame in 2012, and Alabama in 2016. None are listed in the NCAA FBS Record Book as National Champions. Stating that UCF were national champions is equivalent to declaring that mermaids are real because a drunk sailor said he saw one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.117.152.234 (talk) 05:24, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wolfe poll

This poll currently ranks UCF #1 and is a NCAA major selector, it should be included:

Final Wolfe ranking isn't out yet. Anyways, this discussion is occurring over at Talk:UCF Knights football#National championship?. --Elisfkc (talk) 17:33, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Wolfe poll now ranks UCF #2 since the season is now officially over. At this point, no selector of any kind names UCF national champion. They are self declared national champions, and the governor of Florida has proclaimed them national champions. Sf46 (talk) 06:09, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Colley Matrix will have UCF at number one and they are a major selector by the NCAA. http://www.colleyrankings.com/currank.html you can input yesterdays game here and UCF is ranked one — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:B4F0:BA60:E4F4:143B:34B1:EE48 (talk) 01:12, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Colley Matrix is NOT a major selector by the NCAA according to their record books for the 2016 season. (Sullivan9211)

The Colley Matrix is indeed a major selector. It's listed as "Wes Colley" (the creator of the matrix) in the NCAA record book. Lizard (talk) 03:46, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I stand corrected. I looked over it and confirmed it. Thank you. (Sullivan9211)

From 2007 to the present, the NCAA hasn't listed the Colley or Wolfe poll as a major selector for the national championship. If by next year, it doesn't list UCF as a champion will the wikipedia page for UCF be changed? (Sullivan9211)

Change Coaches Poll Rank (11) to 7. Amway coaches poll is linked here: http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/football/polls/coaches-poll/2017/16/

This will need to be changed in the rankings at the bottom as well.

Thank you. 198.99.254.14 (talk) 19:43, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
