Broadcasted

The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

An October 2017 search for Broadcast gave over 185,000 uses, compared with a search for Broadcasted which gave just 60.
Of these 60, 15 are redirects to "Broadcast" articles, 16 refer to a Canadian TV award and 5 relate to a 1924 cartoon. The rest are quotations.

Can't understand why you removed these citing them as spamlinks when they are links to legitimate manufacturers of OO9 gauge kit locomotives and rolling stock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.232.53.42 (talk) 23:33, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see at the OO9 article, I am not the only editor removing these links to sales sites - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not a sales directory - please stop adding these adverts before you are blocked - thank you - Arjayay (talk) 10:52, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you threatening me with blocking me? I'm new to this and genuinely thought I was helping by re-adding them as this is such a niche market. 92.232.53.42 (talk) 11:15, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Francis Drake Association

Thank you for helping with the corrections and improvements you've made in articles I've recently begun: William Ralganal Benson and Mary Knight Benson. I have recently finished a recently written book on the Sir Francis Drake Association, a hoax organization which stole a fortune of treasure from innocent people many decades ago. I've also found a news journal which reported on the matter, so I would like to write an article about it, too.

However, there is already an article about the Sir Francis Drake Association, two legitimate organizations. This article also needs attention as it is about two separate organizations, one historical and no longer functioning. The other is active, yet maybe not appropriate for inclusion in Wikipedia as the edits seem to be by a member of the organization who uses the organization website as citation. I have not really found any reliable sources for the inclusion of the active organization.

So, before I start the article, I would like to know how to approach it. Considering the existence of the current article , I really do not know if the false Sir Francis Drake Association organization should partially replace, fully replace, or simply add to the current article. Or is there another alternative? I do wish to know your opinion, and I appreciate any direction you can provide to me on this matter.Hu Nhu (talk) 23:37, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have been considering this article idea, and I believe the idea may work best as an article about the Oscar Hartzell, the perpetrator.Hu Nhu (talk) 16:58, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Hu Nhu thanks for your question, and apologies for the delay in replying.
I was going to start by saying please do not add to the existing article, as our articles are about individual subjects, but as you pointed out the Sir Francis Drake Association page already covers two different subjects. This needs resolving, and would only be made worse by adding a third, unrelated, subject.
Normally such problems are dealt with by disambiguation so your page might be Sir Francis Drake Association (hoax) and the others Sir Francis Drake Association (1914-49) and Sir Francis Drake Association (2017) or similar titles, whilst there would be a Sir Francis Drake Association (disambiguation) pge which would list all three articles, so readers could find the one they are looking for.
I agree that the current organization is not well referenced, but I suggest you leave this to another editor, as it could be seen that you are trying to "clear the way" for your article to be the primary subject.
I assume you are aware that we already have an article on Oscar Hartzell and it may be better to amplify that article, rather than start a new one, just on that hoax, as there would be considerable overlap, and others might decide to merge the two articles.
One final comment; when basing an article on the subject of a book, it is important that you avoid plagiarizing the book, or including sections that could be seen as a copyright violation. Presumably, in addition to the news journal you have found, the book cites other sources, which you should also try to track down.
Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 17:44, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Arjayay; I find no delay in your reply and consider it quite timely. I think it is probably best to write another article I've considered. I appreciate the information and will leave the Drake Association article alone. Perhaps someone else will attend to the problems with the article.Hu Nhu (talk) 21:09, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year..!

Hello, Thank you for the heads up. Have gone through the guidelines. The changes were factually correct but will look for a more reliable source as per Wikipedia guidelines before making the change again. Apologies for initially posting the message on top instead of the bottom of the page.

Editing Suman Chakraborty

I edited the page of Suman Chakraborty and just wrote the name of his school as I am a student of the same institution and personally met him and enquired about his school. If you feel you can check his Facebook profile.

Regards Putke Putke (talk) 14:50, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Putke - As I tried to explain on your talk page, you did not cite a reliable source to support your addition, so readers in the future cannot verify that the information is correct.
All information in Wikipedia should be supported by citations to reliable, independent, sources. If you wish to re-add the information, please make sure that you add such a citation
Please see Referencing for beginners if you are unsure how to add references correctly - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 15:07, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
recorrection
actually, I'm new to the wiki but experienced in blogs and contributions. I think that links can be added for reference to the mentioned cuisine (in this case) and internal wiki links are not available for that, so to give the reference for that, I gave ext. link to the item. Ashish16200216 (talk) 05:11, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ashish16200216 - I'm afraid that my comments may seem negative, but Wikipedia has many policies and guidelines, that a new editor cannot be expected to know.
We do not include External links in the bodytext of articles, furthermore, your addition was to the lead section of that article, whereas the lead should only be a summary of what the main body of the article states.
What you added was trivia, not appropriate to a featured article covering such a broad subject as Hyderabad - we have a specific article on Hyderabadi cuisine, but before you add it to that article, please note that, as explained at WP:NOTRECIPE:-
While Wikipedia has descriptions of people, places and things, an article should not read like a "how-to" style owner's manual, cookbook …. . This includes …. recipes.
Apologies for the lecturing style - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 11:28, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No subject

Dear Arjayay, Just now I saw that you had written to me and given me a warning, because I had added information to Chaz Jankel´s page. I don´t know if THIS is the place to write to/contact you, I have looked for somewhere to write but to me it seems rather unclear. So I hope you will see this message and come back to me. Please tell me WHERE I am supposed to write, since I cannot find that important information. I have sent money to Wikipedia before, but I think it´s such an amazing source of information on the internet. But I had not created a username before. I sis this now, because maybe that is the only way to be able to write to you? So, let me tell you, the additions to Chaz Jankel´s page were made by me because we were married for several years and have a son Tao Hemberg Jankel. But I noticed last night that he has forgotten to honour both his sons under his information on his personal life. That is very important as I am sure you understand. I filled in the missing information and I am the most reliable source, as his first wife. I can send you proof of our marriage AND our divorce if you need it. I also corrected a date in his text, of when we moved to Los Angeles, it was 1988 and not 1986. This is very typical of Chaz, to get the dates wrong. I know he´d be grateful to me for helping him out here. We are in good contact and have a good relationship as friends. Please come back to me, Arjayay - and I apologise if I have written this text to you in the wrong place. You need to help me out as I previously wrote, by telling me WHERE I am supposed to write to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catharina Hemberg (talkcontribs) 14:49, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Petta plot

Hello brother, can you please remove petta plot from the page ? Its just released yesterday and lota of people are yet to watch the movie, pls dont spoil the fun for them. Its a humble request ! Srinie er (talk) 13:34, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I worked as associate director in this movie, pls consider this humble request

Srinie er (talk) 13:36, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Srinie er Thanks for your post.
It would be against Wikipedia policies and guidelines to remove the plot, as Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, and we have specific rules about Spoliers, specifically
"It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot."
We used to include "Spoiler warnings", but as explained in SPOILER we stopped doing that in 2007. Sorry, but the plot must stay - Arjayay (talk) 13:45, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I saw an earlier version of plot which was one paragraph and was not revealing much info. Can you pls revert to that old plot please ?

Srinie er (talk) 13:55, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No Srinie er, as explained in my edit summary, that short plot was reverted because it was too short. The guideline is at WP:FILMPLOT - plot summaries should be between 400 and 700 words - The one at Petta (film) was cut from 626 words - which was fine - to 146 words - which was far too short. - Arjayay (talk) 13:59, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to atleast not reveal the climax twist please? Srinie er (talk) 14:46, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Srinie er - I repeat "It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot." - Arjayay (talk) 15:02, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop posting copyrighted content

Refer to page Petta (Film). Refrain from posting copyrighted content. Read Wikipedia section on posting of copyright content of others and also section titled difference between summary and abridgement.

It'd be courteous if you stop outrightly acting without due reading on guidelines. Sreekanthgs (talk) 21:59, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sreekanthgs I see you have been temporarily blocked, and the Petta (film) page has increased protection, as I requested.
A plot description does not infringe on the copyright of a film, provided the description is not excessively long. This is why we have a limit of 700 words on plots.
A plot description copied from another source, e.g. a magazine, could be a breach of copyright for that specific description, but not of the film.
Effectively, a plot description is plagiarism, but plagiarism is not a crime, although in certain circumstances, it could be an academic violation.
Finally, the Indian Copy Right Act of 1957, covers copyright, not plagiarism, but even if something did breach that act, as Wikipedia's servers are in the US, Wikipedia's content is covered by US law, not Indian. - Arjayay (talk) 11:05, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delaware Valley Friends School

I am the marketing manager for the school and was trying to update the wikipedia page to make it accurate. The information keeps getting deleted and saying I'm being disruptive. How do I add our info to that page?

50.201.118.234 (talk) 17:36, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have a clear conflict of interest, and are also a paid contibutor so should not be editing that page at all, and should not edit Wikipedia until you have declared that interest. - Arjayay (talk) 19:51, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Boing (Spanish TV Channel)

Sorry for that! I didn't know that, I thought all wikis had the same rule on dates. TheTrueGilben (talk) 15:33, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TheTrueGilben - no worries - All wikis have their own rules, but there too many to read before you start editing. When editing a different Wiki, it can help to look at a similar article first. Thanks for your additions on that article in any case - Arjayay (talk) 15:38, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj

You have provided completely wrong information of the great maratha warrior Sambhaji Maharaj. Correct it . And stop spreading wrong information Madbunny1995 (talk) 12:59, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Madbunny1995 I assume you are talking about my reverting the whitewashing at the Sambhaji article, by a now blocked editor, which I assume you are related to?
I suggest you read the Q + As at the top of Talk:Sambhaji in particular Q: Why does it say "addiction to sensual pleasures"? I do not like that!
As an observation, telling other editors what to do, as you did above, rarely produces the desired effect - Arjayay (talk) 19:36, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, why you changed My edits?

Sir.. I edited that bcz of the people think that south indian brahmins and north indian brahmins are differemt they can't marry.. Plz coperate with me to make them sure about the topic of Pathak Caste - a teaching and was brahmin, same as namboothiri, nambiar is brahmins and their job also was teaching. So i was giving examples of both so that it will create a good relationship with South and North India plz.. Undo my edits.. Amrita Pathak (talk) 04:10, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amrita Pathak - as explained in my edit summary "Rv unsourced, unclear, additions" which I then amplified on your user talk page - all additions to Wikipedia should be sourced to reliable sources, which should be cited as a reference when making the addition, For more information, please click the blue links on your user talk page, particularly the links about Wikipedia:Citing sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability. - Arjayay (talk) 19:29, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

Can you nominate the page "Mikhael (film)" for page protection ? Lots of vandalism and unsourced edits, fan IPs adding exaggerated gross collection and hiding the poor reception of the film by misrepresenting the reviews section. 137.97.144.208 (talk) 18:47, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello IP from Thrissur. thanks for your post.
I'm not sure that there is enough vandalism to merit protection at the moment, but if you think there is, you can ask at WP:RPP, you don't need an account to make such a request. However, if you ask too soon, and it is refused, then it will be flagged up that a request has recently been refused, which can make it more difficult to get it protected later. I have added it to my watchlist - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 19:23, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
