Ramsay Street is a fictional street in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. It is located in the fictional suburb of Erinsborough, Melbourne. This location is the focal point of the show, and generally characters are included in the storyline by their living in one of the six houses located at the closed end of the cul-de-sac.

In the story, Ramsay Street is named after the Ramsay family, who were a prominent family in the area historically and when the show began. This family has since left the show, and a large number of other families and characters have come and gone from the street. Harold Bishop is the only character still living in Ramsay Street that is in any way related to the Ramsays, having been married to Madge Bishop (née Ramsay) for 13 years before she died of pancreatic cancer.

The real Ramsay Street (the actual street where the outdoor scenes are filmed) is Pin Oak Court, Vermont South. The indoor scenes are filmed in a studio, and because of this there are occasionally discrepancies between the appearance of the inside and outside of the houses.

History of the Street

  • No.22 First seen to be occupied by Clive Gibbons and Zoe Davis, it was then bought by the Daniels Corporation in 1986. Gail Lewis moved into the house in 1987 and it became the second family home after her marriage to Paul Robinson in June 1987. Paul continued living there, throughout the end of his marriage to Gail and his next marriage to Christina Alessi. Paul moved away in 1992 but retained the house until 1993. Lou Carpenter bought the house and was shortly joined by Cheryl Stark and her children Brett and Danni. Cheryl gave birth to Louise in 1994. After Cheryl's death in 1996 and Brett and Danni's departure, Lou was joined by Cheryl's other son Darren and Marlene Kratz who helped to look after Louise. From 1998 to late 2001, Lou and Louise were the inhabitants until Louise's real biological father wanted her to come and live with him. From 2002 to 2005, Lou lived alone until Paul Robinson returned to Erinsbourough and purchased the house back. Paul's daughter Elle now lives with him, as well as his partner Lyn Scully and her three year old son Oscar.
  • No.24 The Ramsay house first seen to be occupied by Max Ramsay and his wife Maria and their two children Shane and Danny. Maria soon left. Later Max's sister Madge moved in. When the other Ramsay's departed Madge was joined by her daughter Charlene and later her son Henry. Harold moved into No.24 after his marriage to Madge and after Madge's children had left they took in Eddie Buckingham and Gemma Ramsay. After Harold's disappearance, Madge lived with Lou Carpenter until she decided to reject Lou's proposal of marriage and went to live with Charlene and Scott. Lou remained in a No.24 for a time with his daughter Lauren and some of the youngsters in the street until Marlene and Sam Kratz bought the house in 1994. In late 1996 Harold and Madge returned and Marlene agreed that they could live there again as she was planning to move into No.22 to look after Louise after Cheryl's death. Madge and Harold took in Paul McClain and Tad Reeves during the next four years until Madge's death in 2001. Both Paul and Tad had left within the next year and in late 2003 Harold was joined by his granddaughter Sky, son David, his wife Liljana and their daughter Serena. David was killed in 2005 and Liljana and Serena are presumed dead as well. No.24 is currently occupied by Harold, Sky, Lou, Carmella and Sky's young daughter Kerry.
  • No.26 The traditional home of the Robinsons is No.26 Ramsay Street, a large grey brick house at the top of the cul-de-sac. Jim Robinson bought the house in the early 1960s and lived there until his death in 1993. Jim's mother-in-law, Helen Daniels, who had lived with the Robinsons since the death of Jim's wife Anne in 1975 received the house in his will and lived there until her death in 1997. Philip Martin and his family lived there until they sold the house in 1999 to the Scully Family. The Sale of No.26 in 1999 is regarded with suspicion by many fans as in Jim's will it was stipulated that upon Helen's death, his children Paul, Lucy, Scott and Glen would all equally inherit the house. The house was recently bought by Loris Timmins, who is living with her daughter-in-law Janelle and her children: Dylan, Stingray, Janae and Bree along with Janae's husband Boyd.
  • No 28 This house was bought in 1985 by Des Clarke for him and his fiance Lorraine Kingham. When she called off the wedding, Des took in lodgers to pay off his debts, such as Daphne Lawrence and Mike Young. Des and Daphne married in 1986 and had their son, Jamie Kingsley Clarke a year later. Daphne died after a car accident in 1988, and Des continued living there until 1990. The house was sold to the Willis family, who then sold it to Karl and Susan Kennedy and their children in 1994. One by one the children moved out as they grew up, and ultimately Karl moved out when he discovered that he didn't love Susan anymore. They subsequently divorced in 2004, Susan then lived at No. 28 with some house-mates, Sindi Watts and Scott Timmins, for most of that year. In late 2005, Susan fell in love with Alex Kinski and married him, becoming stepmother to his children. Alex died of cancer hours after the wedding. Recently, Karl and Susan reunited, and he has moved back in. The current residents are Susan, Karl, Katya, Rachel and Zeke.

Over the years the house was home to the Martins, until 1994, the Rebechis until 1996, the Wilkinsons until 1998, Teresa Bell until 2001, the Hancock family until 2002, and the Hoylands to date.
