CloudMosa is an American-based technology company headquartered in Saratoga, California.[1][2] Its main product is Puffin Browser, which is available in both desktop and mobile versions.[3] Puffin Browser uses a client-server architecture. Its client application is running on user devices, while its server is running on a cloud hosted remote browsing service.

CloudMosa has raised a total of $21.6M in funding over 1 round. This was a Series A round raised on Jul 11, 2015.[1][4]

History

The company was founded in 2009 by former Google developer Shioupyn Shen, who currently holds the position of CEO.[5][6]

In November 2010, CloudMosa launched Puffin Browser for mobile devices on Apple iOS,[7] and Google Android.[8]

In October 2016, CloudMosa partnered with Sony to supply their internet connected TV sets with the Puffin TV app.[9]

In December 2018, Thailand's GSM mobile phone operator AIS (Advanced Info Service) shipped Puffin Browser in the AIS Playbox.[10][11]

As of November 2018, Puffin Browser has reached 100 million users worldwide.[12][13]

In January 2019, CloudMosa released Puffin Internet Terminal, which is a browser running on Raspberry Pi.[14][15][16]

In May 2019, the desktop versions of Puffin Browser on Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS were rebranded as Puffin Secure Browser, which focused on security enhancements from its remote browsing architecture.[17]

Dispute with Apple

Starting from 2017, Apple stopped CloudMosa from updating Puffin Browser on Apple iOS.[18][19] CloudMosa decided to discontinue Puffin Web Browser and Puffin Academy on the iOS platform on July 1, 2019.[20]
