Character history

Template:Spoiler Micah is the son of Niki Sanders and D.L. Hawkins. He is ten years old and a child prodigy, capable of rebuilding the motherboard for his own computer.

In the series premiere, Micah was attending a very expensive school to encourage his gifts, but his mother could no longer pay for tuition, as she was in debt. Because she borrowed money from a loan shark named Mr. Linderman and couldn't repay it, Micah and his mother went on the run, attempting to elude thugs and police sent after them by Linderman. As Niki attempted to deal with her predicament, she occasionally left Micah with her friend Tina.

Eventually, Linderman erased Niki's debt when she participated in a blackmail scheme against Nathan Petrelli in "Collision". Although aware that his mother earned money as a webcam stripper, Micah expressed concerns before Niki left for her sexual involvement with Nathan, feeling it was more dangerous for Niki to have actual physical contact with customers.

Micah's father is an escaped criminal, accused of murdering his own gang and stealing two million dollars, but Micah believes him to be innocent of the crimes. Micah had been in contact with him without his mother's knowledge until she learned of it from Micah's grandmother. In "Better Halves", Micah's father unexpectedly showed up at Niki's home, and the two reconciled for a time. During a conversation the next day, Micah asked his father how he escaped from jail. His father said he had a secret, and Micah told his father that Niki has a secret as well. Sometime later, Micah ran into his parents' bedroom to find them fighting fiercely, with his father's fist phased into Niki's abdomen. As Niki collapsed, D.L. picked up Micah and ran out of the room.

As they drive away from Niki, Micah grows angry with his father for running away, feeling that the good guys always stay to help and only the bad guys run away. D.L. insists he is not a bad guy. On the road, they find a woman in trapped in a flaming car. While Micah stays behind with Ando Masahashi, D.L. and Ando's friend Hiro Nakamura free the woman before the car explodes. Micah is proud of his father's heroism, though they leave just as police arrive. That night, Micah and D.L. stop at a motel. Micah sneaks out and tries to call his mother, only to find the nearby pay phone is broken. By simply touching it and concentrating, Micah repairs the phone and makes his call. His mother's alternate personality, Jessica, answers, and although Micah realizes this almost immediately, he still divulges the location of the motel in which he and D.L. are staying. He hangs up before D.L. arrives. When D.L. asks him what he's doing, Micah insists that he's just messing around. The out of order sign on the phone and D.L.'s own inspection of it seems to satisfy him.

In "Homecoming", Micah tells his dad that his mom is "sick", and has an alternate personality named Jessica that she seems to be unaware of. He urges his father to go back to Niki and help her. After admitting that he told Jessica where they were, his father rushes him into the car. A shot rings out before D.L. can get in the car himself.

Powers and abilities

Micah has an advanced intellect beyond most children his age. In "Nothing to Hide", Micah uses technopathy[1] near the end of the episode to temporarily repair a damaged pay phone.
