Summer Marjani Walker (born April 11, 1996)[1] is an American singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. She is signed to LoveRenaissance and Interscope Records, the home over other R&B savants (6LACK and D.R.A.M). Her debut studio album Last Day of Summer was released on October 12, 2018.[2]

Musical career

Walker draws her inspiration from Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, and Erykah Badu.[3]

On October 12, 2018, Summer Walker released her debut studio album Last Day of Summer, supported by her lead single "Girls Need Love".[4] Her album contained her thoughts on love, doubt, and womanhood.[5] In late 2018, she went on tour with 6LACK on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour.[6] Following the success of her album, Apple Music named Summer Walker as its newest Up Next artist in 2019, and became the #8 R&B artist worldwide across Apple Music.[7] On January 25, 2019, she released her first EP titled CLEAR, consisting of four tracks of acoustic recordings.[8] On February 27, 2019 she released the remix to her song "Girls Need Love" with Drake.[9]

In an episode of Genius's "The Cosign" series on YouTube in which current artists who have been in the industry have the opportunity to watch videos of newer artists, artist and producer The Dream went with Walker as his co-signee. During the video The Dream stated, “What grabbed my attention about Summer, I guess more so is the automatic future nostalgia of who she is. It’s almost like you could put her five years out already and come back to the moment and you can see it, you know, happening. She seems the most confident and comfortable in that space, and so that’s my cosign.” Walker’s music video for her single "Girls Need Love" was put in a group with music videos from other upcoming women R&B artists including Ann Marie, Kaiit, Danileigh, Amber Mark, and UMI.
