"Goodbyes" is a song by American recording artist Post Malone featuring Young Thug, released as a single via Republic Records on July 5, 2019.[3] The song was written by Austin Post, Jeffery Williams, Brian Lee, Louis Bell, Billy Walsh, Val Blavatnik, and Jessie Foutz, and produced by Lee and Bell.[4]

Composition

The song talks about the end of a relationship, and was called "melodic" by Rap-Up, on which Post Malone sings the lines: "I want you out of my head / I want you out of my bedroom tonight / There's no way I could save you / 'Cause I need to be saved too / I'm no good at goodbyes."[5]

Promotion

Post Malone announced the track on social media on July 1, sharing an image styled like a film poster for the song, featuring the tagline "Too Much Pleasure Is Pain".[5]

Music video

The music video was released alongside the song on July 5, and directed by Colin Tilley. It features Malone playing a gang member who dies after being stabbed by a member of a rival gang, before rising from the dead in a graveyard. Young Thug and actress Kathryn Newton also appear in the video.[6] Due to the fact that Malone gets stabbed multiple times, including in the neck, YouTube made the video age-restricted as it is considered "graphic content".[7] It resulted in a second version of the video to be uploaded to YouTube that cuts out the scene in which Malone is stabbed.[8]
