Comparison of 2014 European election to 1910 general election

In the paragraph about UKIP the article currently states: "It [UKIP] achieved (...) first place in the 2014 European elections, with 27.5% of the total vote. This was the first time since the 1910 general election that any party other than the Labour or Conservative parties had taken the largest share of the vote in a nationwide election." This is in contrast with the article on the December 1910 election, which reports the conservatives to have received most of the votes (although not most of the seats, maybe this has caused the confusion). Also, I am not sure if comparing a European election to a general election makes much sense.
