Powerrr is a professional wrestling web television program produced by the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). The show airs weekly on the NWA's YouTube channel and Facebook page, Tuesdays at 6:05 pm ET,[1] and is available on-demand the following Saturday on FITE TV.[2] As with most weekly wrestling series, Powerrr features professional wrestlers performing in matches and getting interviewed. These elements together create and further the storylines of the program and build towards the NWA's pay-per-view events.[3]
The first television tapings were held September 30 and October 1, 2019 at the Georgia Public Broadcasting Studios[4] in Atlanta, Georgia,[5] with the episodes debuting on October 8.[6]
History
On May 1, 2017, Billy Corgan, bought the National Wrestling Alliance, including its name, rights, trademarks and championship belts.[7] From that point on Corgan and his production team began to rebuild the NWA brand, including its decade-long history from its original inception in 1948.[8]
In September 2019, the NWA announced that they were going to hold tapings for a weekly television show, later revealed to be titled "NWA Power".[9] New episodes would debut online starting October 8, 2019.[9] Powerrr's air time, 6:05 PM, is a call back to the classic World Championship Wrestling show by NWA member Jim Crockett Promotions that would air at 6:05 PM on Saturdays from the early 1970s until 1992.[10][11] San Antonio news reporter Joe Galli and longtime pro-wrestling manager/executive Jim Cornette are the commentators and Championship Wrestling from Hollywood owner David Marquez serves as an interviewer and ring announcer.
Following the November 19 episode of Powerrr being listed, it was quickly taken down due to remarks by Cornette which some deemed racist.[12][13][14] The next day, NWA released a statement stating that Cornette has resigned from NWA.[15][16]
