Arumugam PK or PK Arumugam (born 6 December 1999) is an Indian Rubik's Cube speed solver. He is a three-time world record holder and the first person to solve more than 1000 Rubik's cubes while riding a bicycle.

Arumugam got his first SpeedCube in June 2013 after being inspired by his senior and then got to know about the World Cube Association (WCA) in December 2013.[1]

Then he learnt CFOP method to solve the Rubik's cube and participated in his first WCA competition of Shaastra Cube Open 2014 which was held in January.[2]

Arumugam solved 5 cubes with an average of 36.51 seconds and a single solve of 27.78 seconds.[3] After this he got to know about the culture of speed cubing and started admiring it which in turn turned out to be his passion. In 2015 The Indian Nationals happened in Chennai for the first time[4] and Arumugam met Bhargav Narasimhan who is a multiple national record holder and an Guinness World Record holder for the fastest time to solve 5 Rubik's cubes one handed. Arumugam was inspired by him he wanted to break an Guinness World Record.

While he was checking with the Guinness World Records[5] in the website, he found a category of solving the Rubik's Cube while riding a Bicycle and started practising it for few months. On 4 June 2017, Arumugam set his first world record by solving 1,010 Rubik's Cubes while riding a bicycle[6][7][8][9][10] for 6 hours 7 minutes and 4 seconds without resting his legs on the floor, beating the former record of 751 Rubik's Cubes held by Shreevatsh Rajkumar.[11]

On 25 June 2017 at VGP Chennai, he was awarded with Young Achiever's Record conducted by India events and sports. On 5 May 2019 at Gopalan Innovation Mall, Bangalore Arumugam was a part of the team consisting of 293 people to create a portrait of a tiger, consisting of 1200 Rubik's Cubes to support the cause of Tiger Conservation in India. This attempt was listed in Guinness Book of World Records as most contributions to a Rubik's Cube Mosaic.

On 12 October 2019 Arumugam set his third Guinness World Record at Chennai Citi Centre, Dr Radha Krishnan Salai by solving 2815 Rubik's Cubes one-handed in 24hrs, beating the former record of 2176 held by Krishnam Raju Gadiraju.[12]

Personal life

Arumugam pk was born on 6 December 1999 to PP Kumaravel and PPK Shyamala, residents of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has an younger sister named Sai Maha Lakshmi. Arumugam has done his pre schooling in Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adayar and completed his schooling in 2017 at Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Chennai. Now he is currently pursuing his graduation in SRM Institute of Science and Technology[16] in Electronic and Instrumentation Engineering. Arumugam's hobbies are playing Chess and Photography.
