Early Life and career
Nina Cobham was born in Leeds, England. She had spent time in primary school in Spain, allowing her to learn the Spanish language. She attributes her interest in music to her father, who played guitar himself.[1] She took interest in music from a young age. She started writing songs at the age of seven, and starting performing at 14. She also had taught herself how to play a guitar at 11. [2]She first started releasing music on SoundCloud at the age of 15. After some family friends in Spain joked that she was only making music for her English family, Cobham decided to release music in Spanish as well as English. [3] She had attended university but dropped out by her first year.
Cobham's first single was the 2019 ‘"Te extraño, pero…", followed by the single "Sola" the following year. Her first EP was the 2021 what colour does this feel like. In an interview with Notion, she said that the album was inspired by Coming of Age movies, as well as the four seasons and escapism.[4] She released her follow up album Middle of Nowhere, in 2023. Her albums acquired a fanbase in South America as well as Spain and UK, and were on Demi Lovato's and Christina Aguilera's playlists.[2]
In April 2024, Cobham released the album Antes, which she had recorded while in Spain during 2021.[3] She had previously released 2 singles from the album, "effort in" and "just to feel something". She also served as a support slot to JP Saxe while he was touring in that year.
Artistry
Cobham's music is known for being bilingual, a sign of her time in Spain. She says that this was influenced by certain lyrics sounding more passionate in Spanish.[3] NME describes her music as "combin[ing[ the haunting vocal style of Billie Eilish with the retro, daydream-like charm of Laufey".
