Rumen Nechev is a Bulgarian graphic artist. Born in 1959 in Smolyan, he resides and works in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.[1] Nechev is celebrated for his profound influence on the Bulgarian and international art scenes. His career, marked by over 50 solo exhibitions, spans major art hubs like Istanbul, Beijing, Venice, and more. He graduated from the High School of Arts in Kazanlak in 1978. He completed his degree in Graphics at the "St. Cyril and Methodius” University in Veliko Tarnovo in 1986 under Prof. Hristo Tsatsinov. Nechev is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the Union of Pazardzhik and Plovdiv Artists. He served as the Chairman of the Society of Plovdiv Artists from 2002 to 2005.

Rumen Nechev has developed a signature style that masterfully employs black and white to explore themes ranging from the abstract to the deeply cultural. His innovative work in 2021 at "Grafikart" Gallery, which featured 3D graphics on handmade paper, underscores his relentless pursuit of pushing artistic boundaries​. Recently, a compelling exhibition titled "Чернопис"("Black Drawing") at Gallery Aspect in 2023, explored the depths of black as a color​.

Nechev's works are prominently featured in prestigious collections, including the National Art Gallery in Sofia and the City Art Gallery in Plovdiv. His international presence is highlighted by his participation in significant events like the "Global Print" series in Portugal and the "Imago Mundi" collection in Venice​​. His artistic achievements are further recognized through numerous awards, with the latest being an Award for Graphics "Ludogorie" at the GHD Razgrad, 2023; Award at the Biennale "Friends of the Sea" in Burgas, 2022; Honorary certificate from the Fifth International Exlibris Competition in Istanbul, 2023; Award for Graphics at the International Biennale of Miniature at the City Gallery Ruse, 2021.

Nechev’s continuous engagement in curatorial projects and community art initiatives enriches the cultural landscape and ensures that Bulgarian art resonates on the global stage.
