There have been reports of census takers fabricating or denying citizens their right to state their nationality. It has been reported that officials have instructed pollsters to count all Russian citizens as ethnic Russians. Specifically, citizens wishing to declare their ethnic identity as Siberians have been outright denied their right to do so, being erroneously ascribed as Russians or "Russian Siberians" regardless of self identification.<ref name="kpsib">{{cite web|last=Goble|first=Paul|title=Window on Eurasia: Russian census takers refuse to acknowledge 'Siberian' as nationality Read more: http://www.kyivpost.com/news/opinion/op_ed/detail/86631/20/page/1#ixzz12gsFnkAZ|url=http://www.kyivpost.com/news/opinion/op_ed/detail/86631/20/page/1|publisher=Kyiv Post|accessdate=18 October 2010}}</ref>

Inside a census station in Severodvinsk

The Russian Census of 2010 (Russian: Всеросси́йская пе́репись населе́ния 2010 го́да) is the first census of the Russian Federation population since 2002 and the second in its post-Soviet history. It lasts now from October 14 till October 25.[1]

Preparations for the census began in 2007. The census was originally scheduled for October 2010, but was moved to 2013 allegedly financial reasons,[2] but it is also speculated that political motives were influential in the decision. On October 30, 2009 Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin informed that the Government of Russia allocated 10.5 billion rubles in order to conduct the census as originally scheduled (in 2010).[3][4]

It has been reported that officials have instructed pollsters to count all Russian citizens as ethnic Russians. Specifically, citizens wishing to declare their ethnic identity as Siberians have been outright denied their right to do so, being erroneously ascribed as Russians or "Russian Siberians" regardless of self identification.[5]
