Starting 2009 page

I've started the page and am currently preparing information for positions 1-25. If anyone else wishes to contribute, Please indicate what you are working on here, so we do not duplicate effort.

I am currently cutting&pasting entries from last year, updating worth, age, and position number plus the profit/loss indications. Due to the likelyhood of edit conflicts, I suggest you copy your edit window contents before saving, because some browsers (e.g. IE) will throw awy all your work if you step back to the edit page after a conflict.

I'm also moving the 2008 list and redirecting the "current" page here. -- Tcncv (talk) 03:14, 12 March 2009 (UTC) son of a bitch[reply]

Vandalism

Due to the recent acts of vandalism, I suggest locking the page to new or unregistered users. 500 pages of vandalism vs. undoing in the history to back me up. Ericloewe (talk) 21:37, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just suggested this at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Regards, HaeB (talk) 16:13, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be further protection on this page. I just reverted a slew of vandalism that occurred today. Also, I notice that "#86" on the list is in the wrong position, can anyone first verify this and then fix it? — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 00:59, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery

Why there should be a photo gallery in the lead section of the article? --Jaqen (talk) 21:12, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? It is typical of Wikipedia articles to contain a few images relating to their topic. Usually as part of an infobox. However, this article is about a number of people, so someone in the past chose to include images of the top four or five. The horizontal placement may have been chosen because a vertical arrangement in the right-hand margin would have limited the available table width. -- Tcncv (talk) 23:30, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I like the gallery, I think we may want to do top 3 instead of top five though. Bases solely on the data on the page, there is a significant gap between #3 and #4, but lots of people with wealth approximately equal to 20 billion us dollars. Mathiastck (talk) 19:47, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese billionaires

Moved from Talk:tcncv#list of billionaires page, question.

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, not sure of alternative ways to ask it on Wiki. I see that no Chinese people are included in the list of world's billionaires except for on their own page. One in particular is worth more than even the Walton's, just wondering why they are excluded, or if it is just a matter of time and getting them added. I would offer to help, but I only know the most basic of edits, and don't really understand the table formatting. I saw the disclaimer that heads of state types are excluded, just wanting clarification as to the Chinese exclusion. Thanks, captbrian23 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Captbrian23 (talkcontribs) 18:03, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I took the liberty of moving this question from my talk page. This article is based on the list published by Forbes and includes the top 100 from their published list. Forbes identified several Chinese billionaires on their list, but they were not in the top 100. There are also quite a few from Hong Kong, some of which are included on our page. Forbes also listed a few more are listed for Taiwan. If some top billionaires didn't show up, I suspect that either the information was unavailable to Forbes, or the information was unverifiable. You can review forbes's methodology here. Wikipedia are not in the business of conducting WP:original research, an instead relies on inormation information from [WP:reliable sources]], to drive the content of our articles. -- Tcncv (talk) 06:08, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize this list is constrained to well-known Western (NA + Europe) billionaires and a few token ones from Asia. Probably should be renamed or something. It's not a reliable source if it's omitting a large portion of the larger economies. Brianrusso (talk) 13:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Forbes?

Is it really accurate to say the list is based on Forbes magazine when several other sources used as references in the list? --Cybercobra (talk) 20:01, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oprah Winfrey?

According to her article, her net worth is over $2.7 billion as of September 2008. Is there some reason she's not on the non-Forbes list? --Dinoguy1000 (talk · contribs) as 66.116.12.126 (talk) 05:29, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List is very poor

Where is the sultan of brunei? Where is the Queen of England? Where is vladimir putin? --Blue Tie (talk) 04:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the last sentence of the lede? --Cybercobra (talk) 04:56, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
oops... missed it. But I still object on two grounds: 1. It says that the wealth is tied to their position. That may be the case for the Queen of England but it is not the case for Vladimir Putin. It appears to be an arbitrary discriminator. 2. Why remove heads of state anyway?--Blue Tie (talk) 15:24, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would guess (but haven't checked) that the Forbes list this article is primarily based on does the same thing. I agree it's somewhat arbitrary. --Cybercobra (talk) 02:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per, Re: List is very poor

It is said at the top of the page why some of the persons you just mentioned aren't on the list. But you are right about the poorness of Forbes list. Forbes lists are always very inaccurate. I for instance don’t get, that Maersk McKinney Moller (the shipping giant) isn’t on the list. While Forbes claims Maersk to be worth 1.8 billion $, a Danish source, Belingske Nyhedsmargasin, estimates the figure to be around 25.5 billion $. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.242.113.113 (talk) 22:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Company titles don't acctualy tell what they do

Can't someone add column about in what industry they are in ? Sure Microsoft, IKEA and Walmart are household names, but you have to go and check every other company to see from what they actually made the money (and my Internet connection is frustratingly sluggish so it makes it really annoying) ~~Xil (talk) 21:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

lies

hey i don't believe all that where on earth do you get these figures. Or maybe you got something with them who knows —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.30.31.182 (talk) 10:03, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned

I noticed there are several not mentioned here. For instance people like the Queen of England (14 Billion), and several actors like Samuel L Jackson with nearly 8 billion should be mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by D.R. Pepper M.D. (talkcontribs) 23:53, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where's the Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris??Forbes estimated his wealth as 12.7 Billion dollars which means that he must be the 25th just before Micheal Dell.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.153.35.170 (talk) 09:24, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

who is this mian mansha?

His name is not mentioned in any of the standard lists.Forbes,Fortune,Sunday Times etc.The only list that mentions him as pakistan's richest man has listed Pakistan president Zardari and former PM nawz sharif etc etc as billionaires. The lis it self is confused about his worth one pace it mentions as worth 4.4 billion and other place as 2.5 billion.None of the standard list mention of any Pakistani as a billionaire. In the other source he himself claims to be worth 5 billlion dollars. To mention a man among world's 100 most richest needs a credible source and not some unknown website. Please replace him with some one appropriate from forbes or sunday times richlist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunnyji 2k (talkcontribs) 13:01, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even if his worth of 4.4 billion is true he is still behind Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/10/billionaires-2009-richest-people_Mansour-bin-Zayed-Al-Nahayan_55XR.html
