The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is a continuation of the long-running American late-night talk show The Tonight Show on NBC. It is scheduled to be hosted by Jay Leno beginning March 1, 2010. Leno was the fourth host of the series as a talk show, and the sixth host overall, serving from 1992–2009. After his first tenure, he hosted The Jay Leno Show from late 2009 until early 2010.

History

As a result of a dispute between NBC, Leno, and Conan O'Brien, O'Brien, fifth host of The Tonight Show as a talk show, decided to leave NBC, leading to Leno's planned return to the program on March 1, 2010 for a second tenure as the sixth chronological talk show host. The show is expected to follow a similar format of Leno's first incarnation, while using some popular elements from Leno's primetime program. The set, still at the NBC Studios Burbank until at least 2011 (when the studios are scheduled to be sold off)[1], will be revamped for Leno's return to late night.

It was announced on February 16 that Kevin Eubanks, bandleader of Leno's original Tonight Show incarnation as well as for his primetime show The Jay Leno Show, will only stay with the new show for a short while before leaving permanently."[2] He recently stated he'll "still be around on the show, but less as of now."[3]

Leno's March 1 premiere is scheduled to feature Jamie Foxx, Apolo Anton Ohno and Lindsey Vonn. Other guests announced for the first two weeks include Sarah Palin, Shaun White, the cast of Jersey Shore and Simon Cowell.[4]
