Revision as of 09:48, 8 April 2013

Hi there mate,

tried to improve the article, was reverted in pretty much everything except for the (ref'd) storyline. Don't worry, i won't edit his article again. Speaking of storyline, the DIV2 season in my country has (this year the first as such) a schedule of 42 games, Rambé will not play 21 so that piece you reverted as 100% right, i won't be bothered to reinstate it and i don't want to be a wiki-nuisance. --AL (talk) 00:59, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Attentively - --AL (talk) 23:33, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am sorry if my words were not "all that jazz", a bit exaggerated i admit it. But there's one thing we really should alter in the article, NFT.com is not correct thus should "sit" as a link, not a ref. Rambé only made his debut on 9 JANUARY 2013, against Nigeria. If i provide sources will you let me alter the article (i.e. a ref for his debut, relocating NFT.com as a link)?

Jónas Tór Næs

The letter 'Þ' isn't a part of the Faroese language. Icelandic media refer to him as 'Þór' because that's the Icelandic version of his name. 'Tór' is the Faroese version, because, there is no 'Þ' in the Faroese language. In fact, Faroese has lost the "th" sound Icelandic retains in Ð and Þ, and the English language retains in "th". His name is therefore written with the letter 'T'. I apologize for not explaining my edit, but that warning is a bit demeaning, as it's only there because you don't know the languages you're editing about. finval (talk) 04:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GS. That WP:MOSBIO bold edit "they should not be mentioned within the opening brackets." are you going to object if as per discussion which hasn't shown either consensus or a link to an RfC, I remove it as bold. It's a new rule to prevent editors - not just classical music - duplicating Grove/Oxford style and I think a new rule like that needs discussion before passing it, cheers. The words you added you signalled as BOLD in the edit summary. They basically make almost every article I have created illegal. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:18, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well if MOS already said it, then surely it can be removed can't it? It certainly strengthens the "sports format" against standard encyclopaedic format. In any case I would like to see some evidence for this, as MOS pages shouldn't be dictating things this major based on WP:LOCALCONSENSUS of a few editors there. This covers 100,000s of non-sport bios. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:26, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If I remove it will allow encyclopedic style in articles, encouraging editors who want to create articles in encyclopedic style to do so, and allowing readers to see at a glance where artists, composers, and historical figures were born and died. Which is the reason print biographical dictionaries do it, and the reason all the other wps do it, and the reason many en.wp articles do it. Standardizing everything at a sport format reduces the utility of bio entries.
So far there's been no evidence of any discussion or consensus at the MOS talk page, but even if there had been LOCALCONSENSUS is too often just that given that MOS pages often have less participation that Projects. And yes, WP:IDONTLIKEIT, historical figures are not living sports people, where they were born and died matters and defines who they were in ages when nations were more fluid than today, but the more important WP:IDONTLIKEIT is not so much the format, but WP:IDONTLIKEIT re imposition of a rule banning contributors from using standard bio-encyclopaedic style without any evidence (so far) of discussion. I might feel better if someone can perhaps find where this earlier edit was introduced and how/where it was discussed? Is it really asking too much?
