== re: wwII firing arcs ==

Sorry I didn't have a chance to get back to you earlier. The coverage of firing arcs in WWII era ships is woefully inadequate. For instance, the USS Atlanta was notorious for having only a 60° firing arc on her broadside, but yet was highly effective as an anti-aircraft platform because of her ability to bring to bear a minimum of 6 barrels of highly accurate, rapid firing 5" guns at any angle. The Atlanta was potentially able to bring upwards of 12 barrels on target in a broadside ship to ship engagement, but against aircraft, while she was unable to bring quite as many barrels to bear, she was able to do so over a much wider area of coverage, and thus was much more useful to the fleet. Things like firing arcs, range, and extent of armament are surprisingly lacking in many of the WWII era ship articles, so I was hoping you would help me to continue improving them. I've started with the Atlanta, and I intend to move on to the USS Fletcher, and the USS Northhampton. My RfA
Thank you very much, MBK004, for your support in my RfA which I really appreciate. It closed at 83/0/0. I was surprised by the unanimity and will do my best to live up to the new role. All the best, --ROGER DAVIES talk 16:49, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin favor

Hiya, MBK, can I bug you for a favor? The following fair use images I uploaded are slated to be deleted, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind deleting them before I get the 9200 bot messages informing me of the orphaned images and there impending deletion. The images are as follows: Image:Edward Elric.PNG Image:Roy Mustang (FMA).JPG Image:Maes Hughes (FMA).JPG Image:Jean Havoc (FMA).JPG Image:Heymans Breda (FMA).JPG Image:Alex Louis Armstrong (FMA).JPG Image:Alex Louis Armstrong flexes (FMA).JPG Image:General Hakuro (FMA).JPG Image:Vato Falman (FMA).JPG Image:Kain Fuery (FMA).JPG Image:Basque Grand (FMA).JPG Image:Yoki (FMA).JPG Image:Maria Ross (FMA).JPG Image:Denny Brosh (FMA).JPG Image:Sheska (FMA).JPG Image:Fank Archer (FMA).JPG Image:Zolf J. Kimblee (FMA).JPG Image:Zolf J. Kimblee transmutation circles (FMA).JPG Image:Grumman (FMA).JPG Image:Black Hayate (FMA).JPG TomStar81 (Talk) 03:19, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. These were uploaded back when our fair use policy was more leinent toward multiple fair use images in an article namespace, but like all things on the net our policy evolved and now these image have to go. I would handle this myself if I could, but absent admin rights the best I can do is compile a list and pass it off to others I know who are admins and can delete this stuff. Someday I do hope to be able to do this myself :) TomStar81 (Talk) 03:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch with regards to Edward Elric, I guess someone traded out the old image I had there for a new one. Thanks for the help. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:37, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Return

I don't know if you noticed this yet, but Rudget (talk · contribs) has returned. Thought you might like to know. TomStar81 (Talk) 01:04, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a favor to ask

Hi MBK004. This is a long story, so I'll try to make it as short as possible. I've got this "friend" who stalks me, reverting edits I make. He reappeared this morning, vandalizing Alaska Marine Highway (among other articles). I repeatedly reverted him, which was misconstrued by another admin who blocked me for 3RR (which was overturned by another admin who had previously protected the AMH article). My rollback privilege was revoked as part of the block. I noticed your name in the category for admins willing to grant rollback, and thought you might reinstate me, given that I wasn't misusing rollback in the first place. Thanks for your consideration. Parsecboy (talk) 17:34, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. I normally only use rollback with obvious vandalism, and use the undo button with an edit summary with less clear instances, but I think I tend to forget that not everyone else knows about my "friend" and his activities. I will be more careful in the future when dealing with him. Thanks again. Parsecboy (talk) 20:51, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I indicated to Pewwer42 that I'll accept a nomination. Thanks for your support :) Parsecboy (talk) 18:41, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll let you know. I don't know if Pewwer42 is around right now, but I'm in no real hurry. Parsecboy (talk) 18:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, I'm working on it :) Parsecboy (talk) 21:40, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Parsecboy (talk) 21:42, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. Bring on the stress, I can't wait ;) Parsecboy (talk) 21:51, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be sure to be careful using this :)
Thanks a lot for nominating me for adminship. I really appreciate your comments in my support on the nomination page. If you ever need help with anything, you know where to find me. Again, thanks very much. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 01:17, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of content on RMS Titanic

Will do and sorry about that - i was removing the repartition and conversion figures that have no relivance to the ship!

thanks

thank you for co-nominating Parsecboy, what you wrote has a greater chance of educating people than I, giving him a better chance for adminship. I think I'll have to work on my nomination writing if I decide to nominate someone else. Thank you again--Pewwer42 Talk 21:16, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:FAQ spelling

Its was probably a delay in the server update, the (diff) tab in the histories shows your edits as having come through loud and clear. Thanks for the spelling corrections by the way, I apreciate it.

The TomStar81 Spelling Award
Be it known to all members of Wikipedia that MBK004 has corrected my god-awful spelling on the FAQ templates on the individual Iowa-class battleship pages, and in doing so has made an important and very significant contribution to the Wikipedia community, thereby earning this TomStar81 Spelling Award and my deepest thanks. Keep up the good work! TomStar81 (Talk) 03:40, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I think my latest idea is the best yet, check out my user page--Pewwer42 Talk 06:22, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinatorship

Sorry to see you didn't make it in this time, but for what its worth I think you would make a great coordinator. Keep up the good work, and try again in August, I would be happy to support you again then. In the interim, though, keep up the good work! TomStar81 (Talk) 01:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What Tom said. :-) Kirill 01:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What they both said, I think you will be like me last time. Just carry on getting involved, there are very little duties that normal editors can't do anyway. I hope to see you around (as usual). Woody (talk) 02:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was like an echo of my thoughts (and my actions over the last 6 months). See you around! Woody (talk) 02:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry you didn't make it as a coordinator, but if you want to do something useful, just let me know, I'm sure there are enough tasks. For example some of our measures like the B class assessment could benefit from a critical report. Wandalstouring (talk) 12:56, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Really??

As far as I knew, and believe now to be true, the policy should be changed if it's not, that Vessels of a military nature should carry the military ensign, or perhaps both flags on separate sections.

Anything less is just kinda dumb, the US Naval Vessels right now, and All British vessels always, have their military ensigns, not the National flag on the top mast. That is military tradition dating back hundreds of years, civilian vessels carry national flags Therubicon (talk) 06:30, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With thanks

By the order of the coordinators of the Military history WikiProject, you are hereby awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of your outstanding effort to improve our compliment of naval ships by updating infoboxes, replacing deprecated infoboxes, and locating sources for ships in the employment of their respective countries navies.
