Using article talk pages

Hey Playalake. Editing WP is pretty straightforward. Please do read WP:TPG -- article talk pages are, very simply, for holding concrete discussions about improving articles. If there is a reference that isn't cited that you think should be, simply propose it, and content you would like to see generated from it, on the Talk page. Please don't discuss other editors, the topic generally, or general procedures. That is not what article Talk pages are for. If you have general questions about editing WP you can ask an editor at their talk page; user Talk pages are for non-specific discussions.

As you noted, you came to WP in response to the Change.org petition. Please note that every time you edit WP (including commenting at Talk pages), and click save, you are agreeing to the Terms of Use of Wikipedia, which obligate you to edit and behave according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. When you edit here, you are not an "outsider" you are a Wikipedian.

The policies and guidelines are explained somewhat via the links above - you have to click and read and click through and read yet more. If you would like me to provide you with a summary of the policies and guidelines (I generated one to help people in a hurry get their feet on the ground more quickly) please let me know, and I will post it here. You locked my questions then you deleted them. Everything I saw on the Change.org petition is correct. Not only do Wikipedia editors censor studies beneficial to acupuncture, you also censor discussion on talk pages. You tell me to add what I believe is correct to the article but there is no edit button for me to make changes. This is obvious. Only select editors like you with an obvious censorship problem edit the article, nobody else is allowed to edit. Shame.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Playalake (talk • contribs)

As I said above if you want to be present here in Wikipedia, you need to be mindful of the policies and guidelines the community (not me or some Lizard Overlord or a cabal) put in place over the past 15 years. If you just came to "storm the castle" you are only going to be frustrated. If you are willing to learn how things work here you will find plenty of people happy to help you. I noticed you are new to Wikipedia! Welcome. You appear to have responded from an offline petition somebody started where they identified a problem somewhere on Wikipedia. I'm glad to see that, between the information outlined on the petition and your common sense and understanding, you have identified some core issues on the encyclopedia and these issues have provoked you to edit. That's good! Honestly, most editors here start off trying to change something on the encyclopedia that bothers them, so please don't let anyone tell you you're wrong for having an opinion on how Wikipedia's articles need to be presented. Frankly, everyone has an opinion about how articles should be written and anyone who tries to make you feel like you're crazy for having an opinion is probably editing from a lunatic asylum and just projecting hallucinations of their own double onto you. So don't despair!

I also would like to take a moment to inform you about how things work here. You probably read on a petition that editors have been banned for nothing. It's true, I was one of those editors. The folks that like to control some of Wikipedia's articles will ban you on trumped up charges if they get the chance. Given the aggressive nature of some editors, I know it might be difficult to hold your tongue whenever you know you're right and other editors are being flippant, but I can tell you that it's in your best interest to do so.

Some articles on Wikipedia are semi-protected. This doesn't mean these articles can't be edited, but new editors do have to make a few edits before they're allowed to make changes on these semi-protected articles. Don't worry, you'll be able to edit anything you want very soon. Once you begin editing, expect that you might get reverted. If this happens, don't worry, just go to the talk pages and address your concerns as cordially and diplomatically as possible. If you and your fellow editors achieve consensus, then make the edit again. If they address and dismiss your points, address them again, or maybe even consider that you're wrong. If editors ignore your points, you may need to just address them more clearly. If they still ignore you, don't worry, there are many other options, like posting a Request for Comment.

A little about myself: I'm a history and language nerd, and my nerdiness pays my bills too. But I can tell you that, in history, timing is everything. The world is rejecting elitist oligopolies at the moment, and ruling classes are in panic. Over and over, arrogant invincible kings and queens have ended up with their heads on a stake. Charles I, Louis XVI, and Czar Nicholas II were all invincible until they were decapitated. Proud and once beloved dictators like Mussolini were killed and their bodies desecrated by a mob. We are once again seeing populism rising and it will soon overturn the menaces of establishment rule everywhere, including here on Wikipedia. I know you didn't come here from this particular petition, but I noticed one on Homeopathy recently gathered 15,000 signatures. So don't worry, you're not alone. I have a sneaking suspicion that many new editors might join you one of these days and you'll probably be able to transform any article to read however you want it to. Paid editors will lose their jobs when they find themselves on the other end of a pile-on at ANI (which is where any bad behavior by editors is reported). Just do your best to stick around long enough and I bet you'll see it happen. Afterall, this is the season!

OPPOSE. Wikipedia does it again! Tries to take off all efficacy on acupuncture. Wikipedia should be ashamed after the media expose you but you do not care. Let's address your points: 1) "Wikipedia" is not a individual or a monolithic entity capable of doing anything by itself. Wikipedia CONTRIBUTORS however, being conscious individuals capable of independent thought, are. 2) What in the name of Pete do you mean by "take off all efficacy on acupuncture"? 3) Wikipedia cannot be "ashamed" (see point 1). Wikipedia CONTRIBUTORS can be. But we aren't, because we're actually doing quite a good job of keeping codswallop off Wikipedia. 4) What "media exposé"? You mean all the recent rants about Wikipedia in the Chinese blogosphere? Yeah, they're probably pissed off with us a bit but I hardly call that an "exposé" 5) Wikipedia cannot "care" (see points 1 and 3). Wikipedia CONTRIBUTORS can, and we do. We care very much about things like keeping codswallop off Wikipedia. 6) The evidence for acupuncture's efficacy in this one specific condition is far from "proven". That's why we're discussing it.
