== Re: Welcome back! ==

AreJay, thanks so much for the barnstar. I appreciate the acknowledgment of my efforts. But I have to admit that I do not feel as though I have done a lot. I only clean up after other users' edits or reverting vandalism. You have done more in terms of providing information and writing articles more than I have. Thanks again. Cool! I would need to learn how to make some more of these type templates soon from you. :-) --gppande «talk» 08:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

INRInflation

I did play around a bit, but the way the template is created needs some tweaking.

  1. Rupee values < 1 should be rendered as paise
  2. I believe the template would be used mostly to calculate the present day rupee value. So therefore, was looking for a basic template {{amount|historic_year}}. This is more advanced, so maybe you could separate it into {{historical_year|amount|target_year}} and make the target_year optional. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:33, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm kinda caught up with another project that has caught my fancy, so I'll test it out later this week. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:34, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mangalore

Hi Arejay. I am in India right now. Will be back in a week and then look into the article.thanks Dineshkannambadi (talk) 08:48, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, AreJay. Thanks for your comments on the Mangalore FAC. I have addressed all your comments. Do have a glance when you are free. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 18:31, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Dubai sprotection

AreJay, I checked the history. I found the vandalism to be manageable. Do you feel otherwise? Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:13, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rough guide to semi-protection is nice essay on the subject. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:17, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erech-Uruk Merge

Easy, tiger. You really should wait five minutes before reverting and sending off accusations of vandalism. That will allow a good-faith editor to complete what they're doing. There's been an announcement to merge in the article that hasn't been responded to. Us casual users rely on editors like you to keep Wikipedia clean, but don't abuse the power, count to ten and wait until you know an edit really is vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.7.132.71 (talk) 01:40, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you were planning on making sweeping changes to an article, you should have attempted to obtain consensus by using the {{split}} template. Looked like vandalism to me, from where I was standing. Neither did there appear to be any previous discussion on the matter nor did you include an explanation for the redirect in any one of your several edit summaries...tiger. Thanks AreJay (talk) 02:54, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. Apart from the notice to merge and the listing in the proposed merge page and the note on the discussion page there was absolutely nothing.....

OK, so it wasn't the cleanest process ever, but you jumped in pretty quickly before it could be fixed, with only a cursory glance over the edit summaries. You need to do a bit more examination than that before you start throwing around the vandal tag. But not to worry - you're not the only one with more power than patience. However, unlike Oroso who made the world a better place by apologising and then helping me make the merge cleaner, you got defensive and stood on your high horse. Hope the view's nice from up there...210.7.132.71 (talk) 01:28, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is, thanks for asking. I was trying to provide some information on how to go about the redirect process, but if that means that I was standing on my high horse, then I can see no point in providing any input to you. Good luck, and continue doing whatever it is that you're doing here. AreJay (talk) 20:12, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I really shouldn't take the bait so easily but... there wasn't any advice - just quick revert and a vandal tag. The information regarding using the {{split}} template - I'm sure what you meant was to use the {{merge}} template, right? - all came after I first wrote to you. And apart from anythuing else, the merge tag WAS on the article - only you didn't read that or anything else. You had a quick look at the edit summary notes, didn't check the time and Whooshka! because 'looked like vandalism to me, from where I was standing.' Sorry, but from where I was standing you were too quick to judge in this case. 210.7.132.71 (talk) 02:06, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whooshka? Is that a technical term? No, I didn't mean {{merge}}, I did infact mean {{split}}. If you think I was too quick to judge the case, then that's your opinion. Continue doing what your doing, and no doubt you'll have the opportunity to point out to some other editor who blanket reverts anon #REDIRECT edits with no edit summaries how quick he/she was to judge your contribs (which, btw, will happen if you continue to edit the way you do). I tried to offer you some friendly advice as someone that has been on Wikipedia for close to four years, but if it's not needed, fair enough. It's no skin off my back. This is also the last time I will be responding on this topic. Thanks AreJay (talk) 02:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, its not technical - and I'm not trying to tick you off, and yes, I agree it was clumsy edit - not all my edits are like that, but the idea was to put the edit summary in the last one, but I didn't get a chance to. Anyway its all done now - although it took all of 2 days before someone put in a notice to split back to Erech again.
I know you just said you wouldn't respond again, but my curiosity has been peaked now - why would I use split when I want to merge? Aren't they opposites?210.7.132.71 (talk) 06:59, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy!

The Invisible Barnstar
Hi AreJay, I award you this barnstar for all your contributions to WP India through the years. Enjoy! =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:47, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmn four years. Have you not thought about adminship? I think you would do great with it. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AWB

I've approved you for AWB, but your name was already listed on the users page, so you're good to go.   jj137 (talk) 04:23, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ranga

Hi, can you help me with the literal meaning of the Sanskrit "ranga," as in Ranganathan? Is it "place of assembly" or "gathering place"? Badagnani (talk) 21:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ranga just means Vishnu. It doesn't mean place of assembly or gathering place. Thanks AreJay (talk) 22:09, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template request

Hi AreJay, since you're good in template creation, could I request you to create one for me? This is in response to the FLRC for List of districts of India. I tried to make the template User:Nichalp/infobox, but not sure where it is going wrong. Three values would have to be calculated, area in mi, density in sq km and density in sq mi. Thanks. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, although Ganesh had already done the hard work cleaning up the mess I made. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:11, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

INRConvert bug

Hi! I found a bug with INR Convert, when trying to practically implement it for Abhinav Bindra. When I tried to format 2 crores, it shows up as 0.4 million. I think 400,000 USD would be preferable instead of the decimals. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you back and refreshed. Things are fine, I've managed to figure out much of the parser syntax thanks to Ganesh. Was then inpired to write a few scripts in Perl, and will be coming out with *one very nice one* by next week. Will give you the details once I'm through ironing out the bugs. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:39, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My knowledge of Perl is limited to just three weeks. I hope to release the script by 1 Sep. Its ready and working, but with 52 different user input variables, some dependent on the others, I need to keep testing for an endless series of permutations and combinations. :( =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues with using Bloomberg currency conversion data...

Hi AreJay, I hate to be the messenger, however, the use of Bloomberg's currency conversion information to implement Template:INRConvert appears to be in violation both of Bloomberg's Terms Of Service and of Wikipedia's GFDL policy. The Template_talk:INRConvert page contains more details. --Mwarren us (talk) 18:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Script

Hi!

This is what I am trying to do. So far met good success. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:12, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologize for butting in.. but.. Coool! I've been looking for something like this for some time now. Keep it up. I'll try to use it over the next couple of weeks and let you know how it goes. Thanks! Sarvagnya 17:32, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you have Linux, you can go ahead, though keep in mind the listed bugs. I've not tested it on Windows though. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would there be an advantages of having an HTML frontend? The first script does automates the work by scanning and filling in values such as image name, orientation, ISO, aperture and so on. This would be lost if it was on toolserver. As for the bug, I did notice that and fixed it immediately. It was due to the .= operator where the previous values of the description in the loop were getting iterated. I never expected myself to write ~750 lines of code in three weeks. :-) =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:35, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I did: http://www.perl.org/books/beginning-perl/ (each chapter a PDF), and http://www.tizag.com/perlT/ (for a low level understanding). =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:25, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mangalore is now a FA

Hello Arejay. I thought I should inform you this that Mangalore has been successfully promoted to FA status. Your copyedits and comments had really helped the article during its first FAC. Thankyou very much. Kensplanet (talk) 16:24, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nichalp's upload script

Just an update: My upload script is ready to be used. Do have a go at testing. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:20, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can also test drive it on Windows. I tested it on Windows and it worked without a hitch. The installation page has the details to run it on Windows. Ya, looks slick, I took pains to make it look like it has the appearance of a featured article, still someway to go. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:11, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
