Microsoft Windows components template

Hello,

I noticed you reverted this edit and would like to mention that application software is a more precise article to link to and is still accurate by Microsoft's definition (referenced in your edit summary) as proven by the first sentence "An application program (app or application for short) is a computer program..." :) Computer program seems to cover more of the backend information about programs.

This topic is somehow cursed. No matter what I do, there are others who disagree. The application software article explains its subject as "a computer program designed to perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities for the benefit of the user". This is in direct contrast to "a computer program designed to perform a group of [...] for the benefit of the computer". The latter is called utility software. And "Windows To Go", "Phone Companion" and "Mobility Center" are utility software.

Fortunately, we do not have this problem in the mobile territory. There, "app" is the dominant word. For now, do what you must. I try not to contest.

Also, the place of discussing content is the corresponding content talk page; in this case, it is Template talk:Microsoft Windows components. The correct course of action is to start the discussion in the correct place and then notify the interest party via echo notification or user talk page messages. If you don't do this, you might run into problems with DRN and MedCom.
