Here you can make a request for adminship. See Wikipedia:Administrator for what this entails and for a list of current admins.

Current Wikipedia policy is to grant administrator status to anyone who has been an active Wikipedia contributor for a while and is generally a known and trusted member of the community. Most users seem to agree that the more administrators there are the better.

If you want to become an administrator then add your name to the list below. Other users can comment on your request - they might express reservations (because, for example, they suspect you will abuse your new-found powers, or if you've joined very recently), but hopefully they will approve and say lovely things about you.

If there is general agreement that someone who requests adminship should be given it, then a developer will make it so.

Current requests for adminship

  • Olivier - I have been here for quite a while now...
    • I thought you already were! Of course you should be. --mav
    • Support: Olivier's organizational skills and patience are evident in him wikilinking virtual orphans, and the maintenaince of some ever-growing large lists. And the 5th most active! --Menchi 09:28 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Of course. User:anthere
  • Poor Yorick, Hi! I'd wouldn't mind being an admin. Poor Yorick 02:26 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded. I've seen Poor Yorick for some time, and with some good edits. --cprompt 02:31 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav
    • One more in favour. Have read his edits. Fine. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick 07:44 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • G-Man Well I've been here since February and I must have written at least 100 articles in that time, I wouldent mind becoming an administrator. G-Man 00:08 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep. G-Man is one of the good guys. Second anyone? --mav
    • Seconded - Hephaestos 07:10 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Nomination: kt2, a Canadian largely unrecognized for his over 5000 edits (the 31st active). He has encountered his share of impoliteness from others, but, as far as I can tell, has never responded eye-for-an-eye. Judging from his past contribution, Kt2 is probably not too into banning or reverting edit wars, but administratorship allow him to maintain the articles he works on more easily and faster, as his workload is still going strong and stable.
    • He is a trustworthy and experienced Wikipedian, and with qualities suitable as an admininstrator. --Menchi 12:53 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav
    • Can't, until kt2 accepts. --Eloquence 00:56 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • James F. - I just want to fix the standardisation errors, minor tweaks, and so on on the Main Page and others which sometimes crop up without having to bother anyone else. James F. 06:12 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Support: I read his entire biography, admittedly short, to see if he's a sicko. And apparently he's not. Just another computer scientist geek (Yes, probably like you!) who likes to walk around (probably stalking people!!) and studies in the department of a renowned university. Although he seems to have a minor Anglocentric tendency, and a weird one at that, to spell our name as "Wikip[a]edia" on his webpage. :-D
He's a Liberal Democrat. WP doesn't explain their ideology, but assuming from the name, it's not a racist, homophobic crap-party? (No idea)
In addition to his seeming intelligent and unbiased life, he writes pretty good too. I like his one-paragraph explanation of the the Brit secondary education system, very encyclopedic.
So, I'd say he'll make a good admin so he can do those tweaks he'd like. --Menchi 07:06 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded Angela 13:22 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • The lLib Dems are certainly not racist or homphobic. As for crap I couldn't possibly comment ;-) I'm happy to support James' nomination/application Theresa knott 13:24 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)

(most recent first)

  • Cyp - A bit curious what the admin functions look like, and whether anyone has noticed my existance... I'm probably too small and easy to miss, for that, though.كسيپ Cyp 22:01 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I've noticed. Cyp is a great contributor with a solid record of weeding and not getting into fights. IMO, Cyp will make a great Admin who will not abuse sysop powers. Second anyone? --mav 23:18 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded - Hephaestos 07:10 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • An a doughty battler against M******. Seconded jimfbleak
  • Menchi: Since joining the WP community half a year ago and 3000 edits later, I have not instigated an edit war or flamewar. Although apparently I had a twin with the exact same name as I do, only that his name starts with "F___". :o) --Menchi 12:53 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded, of course. Menchi is a paragon of Wikipedian virtue. -- Tim Starling 14:06 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll definitely second Menchi's nomination also. - Hephaestos 14:10 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav
  • Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one User to request sysop-status; it'd be nice if they had a good reason for it. I don't. The reason I am typing this is: One way or the other, I want to stop thinking about the subject. That's it. Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick 18:23 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded. No good reason, but no bad reasons either. --cprompt 02:32 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Thirded. Hephaestos 04:42 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • fourthed Theresa knott 08:29 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • user:Ilyanep (requested via this mailing list post]
    • (negative)Ilyanep apparently has only been with WP for a month. -豎&#30505sv
    • I've elaborated through this mailing list post. You'll find my counter to the 'only been here for a month' argument. -- Ilyanep Jun 15 2003
    • NOTE:There have been some people second on This post and This one
    • Re:*sigh*. Like many people, I'm not commenting because I don't know Ilya. Hence, I neither support nor oppose Ilya's application. Martin 21:36 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • I don't see why so many people feel like making that certain. If they're neutral, why don't they just not reply, and nobody will care, I don't mean it to sound too rude or agressive if it does. ilyanep 21:51 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • Well, since there seem to be no serious objections and two approvals, I made you a sysop. --Eloquence 23:02 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • User:Theresa Knott Hi I'd like to be a sysop { I did't know whether to put the request at the top or bottom of the list. I've plumped for the bottom, if this is wrong I'm sorry :-( } Theresa knott 09:32 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I'll second Theresa, especially for what she's done for images and HowTos. -- John Owens 09:38 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep. Good Admin choice. Make it so! --mav
    • I agree. The Anome 09:47 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yes, because she pays attention to detail, like realizing that this is better with white that. KF 22:28 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
