Yoshiji Kigami (木上 益治, Kigami Yoshiji, born 28 December 1957; disappeared July 18, 2019) is a Japanese animator, director and storyboarder. He started working at Shin-Ei Animation, later became part of Animaruya and then he becamed affiliated with Kyoto Animation.
Career
When he was young, Kigami was a big fan of Disney movies and anime shows based on the manga series of Osamu Tezuka, and this lead him to being an animator. He started to work at Shin-Ei Animation and then at Kyoto Animation. He was also the key animator of Grave of the Fireflies, directed by Isao Takahata, and Akira, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo.[1] He directed Munto and is also an instructor at Kyoto Animation's teaching program.[2]
Disappearance
On 19 July 2019, a man started a fire at the main studio of Kyoto Animation, killing 34 people and wounding 34 others; Kigami was decleared missing after the attack and six days after the tragedy, his status is unknown.[3]
