The 100 yen coin is a denomination of Japanese yen. The current design was first minted in silver in 1959 and saw a change of metal in 1967.[1] It is the second-highest denomination coin in Japan.
History
The first 100 yen coin was issued in 1957 and featured a phoenix on its obverse. It featured English language writing in addition to Japanese and was also minted in 1958.[2] In 1959 the present design was introduced as a silver coin.[3]
