  • Another famine struck the archipelago for three years, the hardest were the islands of Santiago, Brava, Boa Vista and São Vicente
  • June 14: A Total lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it was in progress at sunset and continued up to mid-evening[1]
  • November 23: a partial solar eclipse took place after 18:00 before sunset, it showed from around 1% (at Santiago and Boa Vista) to under 10% (at Santo Antão) obscuration of the sun in the archipelago[2]
