  • June: Portuguese Cape Verde became an overseas province for the next 24 years
  • June 12: A small eruption affected the island in the area of Pico do Fogo, the next eruption in 94 years, it occurred in two vents
  • mid-June:
    • Scientist Orlando Ribeiro and several others visited Pico do Fogo to monitor the eruption
    • Lava flows followed the stream and reached Cova Matinho south of Tinteira and afterwards reached the Atlantic
    • The northern vent reached the east of Portela in Chã das Caldeiras
  • early-July: the Fogo eruption became less active
  • August 2: Eruption on Fogo finished
  • August 17: A Penumbral lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it occurred in the quarter part of the overnight hours with the greatest at 2:14 local time[1]
  • September 1: an Annular solar eclipse took place, it showed from 60 % (at Brava) to 69% (at Sal) obscuration of the sun in the archipelago[2]
