The 1989 San Francisco State Gators football team represented San Francisco State University during the 1989 NCAA Division II football season..

San Francisco State competed in the Northern California Athletic Conference (NCAC). They played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. The team finished the season with a record of three wins and seven losses (3–7, 0–5 NCAC). For the season the team was outscored by its opponents 165–280.

The Gators were led by head coach Vic Rowen in his 29th, and last year at the helm. In his 29 seasons as head coach at San Francisco State, Rowen compiled a record of 130–165–10, a .443 winning percentage. His teams won the conference championship five times, and they appeared in one bowl game during his tenure (the 1967 Camelia Bowl).
