Iga Świątek is the defending champion.[1]

Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka will be in contention for the WTA No. 1 singles ranking. Barty will retain the top ranking if she reaches the final, regardless of Osaka's result. If not, Osaka can attain the ranking by reaching the final herself.

Serena Williams will attempt to win a record equalling 24th Major Title and a Quadruple Career Grand Slam. Angelique Kerber will attempt to win a Career Grand Slam.
