The 2021 Sardegna Open[1] is a tennis tournament on the 2021 ATP Tour. It is played on outdoor clay courts in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy. It is organised with a single-year licence in 2021, and will be held at Tennis Club Cagliari from April 5 to 11, 2021.[2]
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is a circuit of elite men's players worldwide. The Sardegna 2021 ATP 250 brings some of the best clay-court specialists to Cagliari for its first week of play, including the likes of Daniel Evans and Taylor Fritz. While there will not be any “Top 20” players participating in the 2021 Open, “Top 50” players such as the aforementioned as well as Lorenzo Sonego, Jan-Lennard Struff and John Millman will be among the field.[3]
The Italian 250 debuted October 2020 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic to increase earning opportunities for players and provide entertainment opportunities for fans. It returns to Sardegna in 2021 and opens the red-clay season in Europe. [4] The president of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, sees the addition of the ATP 250 tournament as enhancing an already very rich tennis profile in Italy.[5] SuperTennis is the official broadcast network for the event.
