Notes

  1. ^ The rankings of March 2022 were used for seeding for the final draw. However, since the identity of the play-off winners was unknown at the time of the draw, their position at the FIFA Rankings was not taken into account, and were thus allocated in Pot 4.[3]
  2. ^ Germany competed between 1951 and 1990 as West Germany.

This will be the first time that Spain face either Costa Rica or New Zealand at a FIFA World Cup. The Spaniards had met the Costa Ricans three times, all of them being friendly matches, with one draw earned in San José,[4] and two Spanish victories at home soil: 2–1 in 2015[5] and 5–0 in 2017.[6] Spain had also beaten New Zealand by 5–0 during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.[6]
