90 Feet Road is the initial part of Srinagar-Leh Highway also known as NH 1D (National Highway 1D), connecting Srinagar with Ladakh.[1] It is located about 11.1 km from commercial centre of Kashmir Lal Chowk.[2] It is seven kilometres (4.3 mi) long starting from Soura, Srinagar and ending at Pandach, Ganderbal. It is popularly known as Nammath (in kashmiri language which means '90') among the locals.

History

The road was built in the early 21st century by clearing the existing clay dunes. The name 90 Feet Road was given because the width of the road is 90 feet (27 m) across its length. It is considered as one of the most prestigious road in the city.[3] Also Awanta Bhawan, a historical place built by King Meghwahana's wife Queen Amrita Prabha[4] is situated on the eastern side of the road up to first few km.[5] King Meghwahana was one of the Buddhist Kings of Kashmir.[6] The road provides easy excess for the people of Ganderbal to reach the nearest medical hub, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences.
