Recent history
In May 2014, Anaplan introduced its new marketplace, Anaplan Hub.[14] Using the marketplace, customers can share and find pre-designed planning models.[14] In July, the company opened new offices in York in order to increase its R&D team.[15] At the time the company had eleven offices in seven countries.[15] Another round of funding was announced in January 2016, amounting to $90 million, along with confirmation of Anaplan's status as a tech "unicorn," with a valuation of over $1 billion.[16][17][18] CEO Laluyaux announced that it would be the last private round of funding prior to an IPO in the “not-too-distant future”.[19] To assist with going public, the company hired James Budge as its Chief Financial Officer.[16] At the time, Anaplan had over 480 customers in 20 countries.[16][20]
In January 2017 Anaplan appointed Frank A. Calderoni to be CEO.[21] Calderoni took the company public in 2018 with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as the lead underwriter. On October 12, 2018, Anaplan listed with NYSE for public trading under the ticker symbol PLAN. Anaplan’s value on its first day was over 40 percent above the IPO price.[22] Also in 2018, Anaplan appointed Simon Tucker as Chief Planning Officer (CPO).[23] He was previously the Chief Customer Officer, and was moved to the newly created position of CPO to reshape the planning process as a core business capability.[23]
In August 2019, Anaplan announced plans to acquire Mintigo, an Israeli-founded predictive marketing and sales analytics company.[24] In November, the company was named to Deloitte Technology Fast 500.[25]

Products
Anaplan sells its cloud-native SaaS platform to optimize business planning and performance management in functions including finance, sales, supply chain, workforce and marketing.[30][31][32] Its planning tools can be used for budgeting, forecasting, modeling, pricing optimization, analysis, and other planning and management tasks.[33] In September 2020, Anaplan began offering its enterprise and business performance software on Google Cloud.[34][35]
Among other tasks, the planning platform’s connected planning is used by businesses for planning and modeling. The company’s in-memory HyperBlock® calculation engine allows thousands of concurrent users to access centralized data pools to create models and plans for collaborative planning across all departments. Data is processed in real-time.[36]
Products include:
- Anaplan PlanIQTM: A managed service that combines Anaplan’s enterprise planning with Amazon Forecast for ML-based forecasts.[37]
- Anaplan HyperModelsTM: Allows teams to create models with any number of dimensions and incorporate large-scale data sets to optimize plans.[38]
Technology
Anaplan's product is a cloud computing, multi-tenant data architecture SaaS platform with a patented, in-memory calculation engine (the Hyperblock).
Anaplan's Hyperblock architecture is a hybrid of relational, vertical, and OLAP databases with an in-memory data store multi-threaded calculation engine.[39] The Hyperblock automatically records updates at a granular level by amending only the affected cells. As volumes scale, users can instantaneously update or change models.[40] A patent application for the technology was filed on November 19, 2009, and US Patent 8151056B2 was awarded on April 3, 2012.[41]
In November 2014 Anaplan announced the launch of the Anaplan App Hub, a community for Anaplan users to build, share, and deploy planning apps.[42]
User conference
Anaplan has an annual global user conference: Connected Planning Xperience (CPX),[43] formerly known as Anaplan Hub.
