The Prince Takamado Cup (高円宮杯全日本ユースサッカー選手権大会, Takamado Nomiya Hai Zen-Nihon Yūsu Sakkā Senshuken Taikai) is an annual Japanese football competition run by the Japan Football Association for under–18 and under-15 sides. The prize is named after Norihito, Prince Takamado, a long time patron of football in Japan.

Under-18

Regulation

From 2003 to 2010, the championship was competed as a short-term tournament "Prince Takamado Cup All-Japan Youth (U-18) Football Championship" (Japanese: 高円宮杯全日本ユース(U-18)サッカー選手権大会),[1] where the Prince Leagues (equivalent to regional leagues of Japanese senior football) served as the qualification.

Since 2011, the championship is competed as a year-round league tournament "Prince Takamado Cup U-18 Football League - Premier League" (Japanese: 高円宮杯U-18サッカーリーグ プレミアリーグ) followed by a one-game championship match. The regulation is:[2] 20 teams play in the Premier League. 20 teams are divided into 2 groups of 10 each by their geographical positions, called Premier League East and Premier League West. East and west league winners are to play a championship match at a neutral venue. The 2 bottom teams in each group are to relegate to Prince Leagues, replaced by four Prince League teams winning the promotion play-off. Any under-18 teams (both high school teams and youth club teams) in Japan are eligible for competing in the leagues.
