The 2021 FFA Cup preliminary rounds are the qualifying competition initially meant to decide 22 of the 32 teams to take part in the 2021 FFA Cup. The competition is scheduled to be played between February and July 2021.

Schedule

The fixtures for the competition are as follows.

  • Some round dates in respective Federations overlap due to separate scheduling of Zones/Sub-Zones.

Format

The preliminary rounds structures are as follows, and refer to the different levels in the unofficial Australian association football league system:

  • First qualifying round:
    • 18 Victorian clubs from level 10 and below enter at this stage.


  • Second qualifying round:
    • 56 Victorian clubs (9 from previous round and 47 teams from level 9) enter at this stage.


  • First round:
    • 76 Victorian clubs (28 from previous round and 48 teams from level 8) enter at this stage.


  • Second round:
    • 62 Victorian clubs (38 from previous round and 24 teams from level 7) enter at this stage.


  • Third round:
    • 100 Victorian clubs (31 from previous round and 69 teams from levels 3–6) enter at this stage.


  • Fourth round:
    • 64 Victorian clubs (50 from previous round and 14 teams from level 2) enter at this stage.


  • Fifth round:
    • 32 Victorian clubs (all from previous round) enter at this stage.


  • Sixth round:
    • 16 Victorian clubs (all from previous round) enter at this stage.


  • Seventh round:
  • The four lowest-ranked teams in the 2020–21 A-League will play-off for two spots in the Round of 32.
  • 2 Australian Capital Territory clubs will progress to this stage, which will act as the Final of the Federation Cup.
  • 8 New South Wales clubs will progress to this stage. The 4 winners also qualify to the final rounds of the Waratah Cup.
  • 4 Northern New South Wales clubs will progress to this stage.
  • 2 Northern Territory clubs will progress to this stage, which will act as the final of the Sport Minister's Cup.
  • 8 Queensland clubs will progress to this stage; 2 from Central and North Queensland, and 6 from South East Queensland.
  • 4 South Australian clubs will progress to this stage. The 2 winners will also participate in the Grand Final of the Federation Cup.
  • 2 Tasmanian clubs will progress to this stage, which will act as the Grand Final of the Milan Lakoseljac Cup.
  • 8 Victorian clubs will progress to this stage. The 4 winners also qualify to the final rounds of the Dockerty Cup.
  • 4 Western Australian clubs will progress to this stage. The 2 winners will also participate in the Final of the Football West State Cup.
