The 2022 season will be the Los Angeles Chargers' 53rd in the National Football League (NFL), their 63rd overall, their seventh in the Greater Los Angeles Area, their third playing their home games at SoFi Stadium and their second under head coach Brandon Staley. They will attempt to improve on their 9-8 record from last year, make the playoffs for the first time since 2018, and end their 12-year AFC West title drought.

On April 28, during the first round of the 2022 Draft, the NFL announced that the Chargers will play at the Kansas City Chiefs during Week 2 on September 15, in the first game of Amazon Prime's new Thursday Night Football package.[25]
