[edit]- 1826 – The first train operates over the Granite Railway, one of the first railroads in North America, in Massachusetts.
20th century
[edit]- 1905 – New Haven Railroad acquires control of Willimantic Traction Company.[1]

[edit]- 2001 – Railtrack, in England, is placed under legal administration by Stephen Byers, Secretary of State for Transport, effectively renationalizing the system.
- 2003 – RENFE opens the Madrid-Lerida section of the railroad's new Madrid-Barcelona line in Spain.
