Khovis (Template:Lang-fa, also Romanized as Khovīs, Khūveys, Khaveys, and Khoveyyes; also known as Meysām-e Tammār and Meys̄am-e Tammār)[3] is a village in, and the capital of, Karkha Rural District of Shavur District, Karkheh County, Khuzestan province, Iran.[4]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 3,451 in 459 households, when it was in Shavur Rural District of Shavur District, Shush County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 4,067 people in 946 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 3,520 people in 989 households. It was the largest village in its rural district.[2]
In September 2019, the district was separated from the county, divided into two districts of two rural districts each and two cities (Alvan as the capital and Shavur), and elevated to the status of Karkheh County.[4]
