ZIK is a closed pro-Russian information TV channel in Ukraine. It was part of the Novyny media holding, whose unofficial owner was pro-Russian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk (through his associate Taras Kozak).[1] The channel was on air from September 2010 to February 2021. The TV channels of the Novyny media holding were blocked on February 2, 2021, for anti-Ukrainian activities of its owners, Medvedchuk and Kozak, by a decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.[2][3] On February 26, 2021, a new TV channel, First Independent, was created on the basis of the media holding's closed TV channels – NewsOne, ZIK and 112 Ukraine – where pro-Russian journalists from the closed TV channels moved.[4]
