The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League of the Philippines (MPL Philippines), commonly known as MPL Philippines, (MPL Philippines Season 12), will be the twelfth season of the annual Professional League in the Philippines. The tournament serves as the official qualifying tournament for the Philippines for the upcoming MLBB M5 World Championships which will be held in the Philippines at the end of the year.

MPL Philippines joins MPL Singapore, MPL Malaysia and MPL Cambodia as upcoming seasons with MPL Indonesia beginning in July.

The defending champions in ECHO Philippines are poised to return as back-to-back champions,[1] vying for a back-to-back championship campaign. They defeated Blacklist International in MPL Philippines Season 11[1] and if prevailed, ECHO may become the second team in MPL Philippines history to return to the world championship stage after Blacklist International did the feat in the MLBB M4 World Championships.

Teams and Rosters

Unlike MPL Indonesia,[2] MPL Philippines retains in eight franchise teams with a few rebranding through new ownerships. Notable changes came from teams such as Bren Esports (now known as AP Bren)[3] and RSG Philippines (formerly known as RSG Slate Philippines).

Roster Changes

MPL Philippines

Blacklist International

Blacklist International officially released their MPL Philippines Season 12 roster on August 10, 2023. The most-notable change in the team's roster was the "VeeWise" tandem of Daneire James "Wise." Del Rosario and Johnmar "OhMyV33Nus" Villaluna's absence. They will be skipping MPL-PH S12 as per the organization's announcement. According to their Facebook Post, "they wanted tot ake some time away to recharge and recover."[6]

During the offseason and in preparation for MPL Philippines Season 12, ONIC Philippines' Stephen "Sensui" Castillo is the rumored new player for the organization with a teaser post on July 7, 2023.[7]

AP Bren

AP Bren Esports were among the first organizations to declare and showcase their MPL Philippines Season 12 roster. After a disappointing 3–1 defeat over ECHO Philippines during the playoffs, AP Bren's core roster would still bring home a gold medal for the Philippines during the 2023 Southeast Asian Games for MLBB.[12]

The roster's notable change was with the team's organization when AP Esports acquired the rights to the team earlier in the year.[3] Furthermore, inactive player Carlito "Ribo" Ribo Jr., renowned as the "Greatest of All Time" in MPL Philippines, departs from the organization for good and will make a return to the pro-scene with Smart Omega. Ribo was inactive from Seasons 8 to 11 onwards until making his return.[13] Ribo spent a portion of his time with amateur MPL Teams such as ZOL Esports.[14]

ONIC Philippines

An overhaul of key players were added to the ONIC Philippines roster with the departure of Jungler Sensui to Blacklist International and Exp-Laner Ryota to Smart Omega. With rumors and speculations that ONIC Esports' Kairi, GeekFam ID's Markyyy and Baloyskie were circulating of a potential reunion, these reunion speculations were ultimately debunked as Kairi and their coach, Coach Yeb, resigned and remained with ONIC Esports to join forces with rival and former RRQ Hoshi Jungler Alberttt.[24][25] Meanwhile, Markyyy joins forces with Baloyskie in GeekFam.[26]

ONIC Philippines' most notable roster addition was the services of TNC Pro Team members Escalera and Kramm, RSG Philippines' Perkz and Omega Jungler Raizen.[27] This would immediately be a move inspired by the departure of their Exp-Laner and Jungler in Free Agency.

Formerly as RSG Slate Philippines, RSG returns to the scene with new faces for key roles in the team. With the team retaining several key members of the MSC 2022 Championship Lineup, the team introduces new faces to step up, mainly Iradd, Souuul, and RTZY. With the recent shift of the team's star Jungler and S8 Best Rookie Demonkite to RSG Singapore[31] and H2WO taking a mandatory period of inactivity from the scene, the team sees it filled with younger and lesser experienced players from the professional scene.

MDL Philippines

The second iteration for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League of the Philippines (MDL Philippines) would likely begin in the same month as MPL Philippines. Regardless, the second iteration sees a plethora of new teams to compete and defeat reigning defending champions ECHO Loud, the MDL roster for MPL's ECHO Philippines.[45]

AP Bren Hornets

With the team's collaboration with Euphoria Esports during Season 1, with the rebranding efforts following AP Esports' acquisition to the Bren Organization,[3] AP Bren rebrands to the AP Bren Hornets.

Blacklist Academy

With a partnership with Team Lunatix Philippines, the lineup of Blacklist Academy showcase former Blacklist Jungler Kevier going back to the amateur scene with the team and compete with Blacklist Academy. Kevier halted his activities with the MPL and MDL to focus on his studies.[46] With ESON departing from the MPL scene for an indefinite break period,[47] the MPL veteran returns to the amateur scene as one of the team's coaches.

ECHO Proud

The reigning defending champions returns with the same lineup of players with the addition of Aaren Maximos "Sindel" Palomo. ECHO Proud plans to run it back and becomes the first back-to-back champions for MDL Philippines.[48]

Euphoria Esports

Once with Bren Esports as a partnership during Season 1, Euphoria Esports becomes one of the four new non-MPL teams to join MDL Philippines. The team would likely hope a better finish than Season 1.[49]

GameLab Esports

GameLab returns to the amateur scene, more determined than ever to contest ECHO Proud. GameLab were able to dominate the regular season but fell short in the Grand Finals from Season 1.[50]

MHRLK Esports

MHRLK Esports were one of the first non-MPL teams and one of the newest teams to join MDL Philippines for Season 2. MHRLK's most notable roster addition is the services of former Bren Assistant Coach and former BTR Indonesia Assistant Coach, Coach Pauloexpert, now "Coach Pauuu".[51]

Tournament Format

MPL Philippines Season 12 will follow the same format as the previous seasons, starting from Season 8. All teams will be playing against each other twice (8 teams, 14 games per team). The Top 6 teams will receive the chance to qualify for the playoffs while the bottom two teams will be eliminated. A pointing system will also be established, distributing points to teams that achieves the following:

  • A team that wins a match with a 2-0 result, the winning team will receive 3 points and the opposing team will receive 0 points.
  • A team that wins a match with a 2-1 result, the winning team will receive 2 points and the opposing team will receive 1 point and vice versa.
