Spur 65 is a short state highway spur in Ward County, Texas.[1]

Route description

Spur 65 begins at exit #70 of Interstate 20, between the towns of Pyote and Wickett. The short, 0.558-mile (0.898 km) route has no major intersections until it reaches its northern terminus at Spur 57, the former route of US 80 between Pyote and Monahans.[1][2]

The roadway is two-laned with no shoulder for its entirety. The AADT was 40 vehicles per day in 2011.[3]

History

A previous route numbered Spur 65 was designated in Henderson County on September 25, 1939, connecting US 175 to the community of Baxter, southeast of Athens. That route was combined with FM 804 on August 21, 1950.[4]

The current Spur 65 was designated on December 18, 1958, connecting what was then US 80 to the proposed location of Interstate 20.[1] The bridge at the interchange with Interstate 20 was completed in 1964.[5]
