1970 – The Western Pacific Railroad portion of the California Zephyr makes its last run.
1997 – Japan's Akita Shinkansen (pictured) begins operating over the Morioka-Akita section using Tazawako Line and Ōu Main Line tracks.
2005 – Texas Pacifico Transportation operates the first test train over former Santa Fe Railroad tracks between Presidio and San Angelo Junction, Texas.
