Birlik (Unity People's Movement) is a now banned political party in Uzbekistan, formed in September 1989 by computer science professor Avraham Mikhli and former Soviet Union Member of Parliament[specify] Pulat Akhun. It is Uzbekistan's first democratic opposition organization.[clarification needed] They are the founders of Harakat, an Uzbek political/human rights journal.
