Cyprus was represented by Andy Paul, with the song '"Anna Maria Lena", at the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 5 May in Luxembourg City. The song was chosen through a national final organised by broadcaster CyBC.

Before Eurovision

National final

Lia Vissi-Piliouri was a backing singer for Greece in 1979 & Cyprus in 1982. "Thimame" by Yiannis Demetriou was re-submitted to the internal Cypriot Final in 1988, which it won, however Cyprus had to withdraw from the ESC due to the fact that the song had already been performed in the 1984 Cypriot Final. Jimmy Makoulis represented Austria in 1961.[1]
