Comano is a town and comune in the province of Massa and Carrara, Tuscany, Italy, of some 700 inhabitants.

In the nearby is the pieve of Santa Maria Assunta. It was rebuilt in 1079 in Romanesque style; later it was modified in Renaissance and Baroque times. It has also a castle.

Climate

Comano and its nearby, although the sea is only 30 kilometres (19 mi) away, have a climate considerably colder than the sea shore. This is mainly due to the nearness of the Appennino. Summer is hot with mean high temperatures of 26 °C (79 °F), but nights are cool with mean lows of 13 °C (55 °F). Summer thunderstorms are frequent because the hot and humid air rises from the sea and condenses against the Apennine slopes. Winter is typically cold and damp. Mean lows are about −2 °C (28 °F) and highs are about 6 °C (43 °F), but during the night is the sky is clear the temperature may fall down reaching −10 °C (14 °F) or less.
