Marcus & Millichap, Inc. provides real estate brokerage, joint venture brokerage, mortgage brokerage, research, and advisory services in the U.S. and Canada in the field of commercial property. It popularized the practice of listing properties exclusively with one brokerage firm.

History

The company was founded in Palo Alto in 1971 by George M. Marcus.[2][3]

William Millichap was one of the first salespeople Marcus hired, and was made a partner in 1976.[4]

In the early 1990s, it put together Essex Property Trust, also controlled by George M. Marcus.[5][4][6]

In 2013, it became a public company via an initial public offering.[3]

In February 2020, the company announced the promotion of James Shiebler to VP of investments in the company's Tampa, FL office.[7]
