Yashkuns

Yashkun is a Dardic tribe in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The tribe is spread throughout the Kohistan district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa extending as far Ladakh and Drass. The Yashkuns form the majority of the population in Gor, Chilas, Tangir, Darel valley the Indus Valley below Sazin, upper part of the Gilgit Valley, Gupis, Pingal Yasin(Qurqulti), Punial, Astore Valley, Chitral.majority in [Nagar] and [Hunza].

History

According to historical sources, long time ago Yashkuns migrated from Central Asian[failed verification] region close to Xinjiang to present day Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan.[1] They are in majority in Giglit, Punial, Yasin, Ishkoman and Chitral. In Kohistan, Chhilas, Hodur, khinar, Astor, Gurez, Dras, Gultari, Talil and Soro, the Yashkuns are in majority.
